About the Author
Zhu Zhenbin, expert in the restoration of ancient books, deputy research librarian of the National Library of China, national technical expert, vice chairman of the Professional Committee of Ancient Book Restoration Techniques of the China Association for the Protection of Ancient Books, tutor of the National Center for the Protection of Ancient Books and Jiangsu Ancient Books Restoration and Transmission Center, and review expert of the National Ancient Book Restoration Skills Competition. He joined the National Library in 1980. In more than 40 years of work practice, he has participated in the restoration projects of important ancient books such as dunhuang testaments, "Yongle Canon", Western Xia literature, "Tianlu Linlang" special collection, and the restoration of new rare books, celebrity manuscripts, public maps and other documents in the collection.
While completing the heavy restoration of ancient books, Zhu Zhenbin also bears the important responsibility of inheriting the ancient book restoration techniques and restoration concepts. He has served as a master tutor of the Graduate School of the University of chinese Academy of Social Sciences (cultural relics appraisal and restoration), as well as a lecturer in the Undergraduate Degree of Classical Literature (Ancient Book Identification and Protection) of the Department of Chinese of Peking University, and a branch of the National Library of capital United Workers University (majoring in ancient book restoration). He has published more than 10 papers, including "On the Restoration of Rare Books and Ancient Books", and participated in the compilation of 3 books, including "Rue Xiang Fenfu - Exploration and Practice of Ancient Book Protection".
Synopsis
"Exploration and Practice of Ancient Book Restoration" is a summary work of Zhu Zhenbin, an expert in the restoration of ancient books of the National Library of China, who has more than 40 years of experience in the exploration and practice of ancient book restoration. The book consists of 6 chapters, including an overview of the restoration of ancient books, the equipment, tools and materials used in the restoration of ancient books, the principles of ancient book restoration, the practice of ancient book restoration, and the cultivation of ancient book restoration talents. The content first summarizes the ancient book restoration technology, repeatedly expounds the principles, and combines practice, pushes the old out of the new, pictures and texts, both in-depth and simple, but also has the academic level and depth of research, is a new era of ancient book restoration masterpiece.
Among the four major restoration projects that laid the basic concept of ancient book restoration in the National Library, which was talked about by the industry, Zhu Zhenbin participated in the three major projects of Dunhuang Testament, Yongle Canon, and Western Xia Literature; zhu Zhenbin was also an important guidance expert in the Qinggong "Tianlu Linlang" Rare Books Restoration Project, the largest special restoration project since the implementation of the "Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan". His technique and experience have been continuously improved along with the practice of restoration. These valuable examples, experiences, and scenes from the site that were involved in the restoration at the time were not available to those who did not witness them. Zhu Zhenbin paid special attention to the retention of these valuable materials, wrote a large number of restoration reports, and took pictures of the scene involving various links, providing a rare material basis for us to reproduce the details of the process at that time today. At the same time, the book adopts the color printing process, selects a large number of representative plates, and presents them as comprehensively as possible.
