In 1933, Xue Yue was trusted by Chiang Kai-shek and promoted to the post of commander of the Fifth Army, and later participated in the fifth encirclement and suppression of the Red Army.

In 1939, when Xue Yue served as the chairman of the Kuomintang Hunan Province and the chairman of the province, he then began to command the First Battle of Changsha, where the strength of the Japanese army can be said to be very fierce, they carried out a strong attack on Changsha with the cooperation of more than 100 aircraft and more than 300 ships of six divisions and regiments, while Xue Yue mobilized 21 armies and 52 divisions to start sniping at the Japanese army, after more than 20 days of fighting, the Japanese army suffered heavy losses in this battle, with more than 40,000 casualties.
In 1941, the Second Battle of Changsha began, this time the Japanese army sent 150,000 troops to attack Changsha, and Xue Yue gathered 200,000 troops to wait for the Japanese attack, after layers of deployment, finally won the second battle of Changsha.
On December 24 of the same year, the Third Battle of Changsha broke out, and Xue Yue did not disappoint Chinese again, and the Japanese suffered more than 60,000 casualties in this battle, while the Nationalist casualties were 28,116.
It was precisely because of the victory of the three battles of Changsha that Xue Yue's name resounded in the sky, and it was even more frightening for the Japanese army to hear Xue Yue's name, but in the period of the Liberation War, it seemed that Xue Yue seemed to have disappeared.
In fact, after the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Xue Yue received great praise, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President Truman and the Order of the Blue Sky and White Sun awarded by the Nationalist Government, but since the Battle of Lunan in 1947, Xue Yue was abandoned by Chiang Kai-shek, when Xue Yue served as the director of the "Sui Bureau" in Xuzhou, but he lost consecutive battles, which was criticized by the Kuomintang.
