Hidden in the depths of the mountains, the ancient city of Riez

author:Inferior

According to local records, in 1729 (the seventh year of Qing Yongzheng), when Longshan was rehabilitated and returned to the stream, Liye had already formed a trade cemetery. During the Kangxi Dynasty, Liye began to build streets and docks. Baojing Qingshuiping, which is across the river from Liye, was also called Liye at that time, and the local government called Baojing Liye as the front street and Longshan Liye as the back street, and the two were integrated, which shows the scale of the cemetery.

In 1894 (the twentieth year of qing guangxu), Riye had a tax official, known as Director Wen. After the agency was abolished, there were more than ten rifles, and Director Wen wanted to hand it over to Wu Zhongying, the first household in the place where he lived in BaojingLiye, but Wu did not want to raise soldiers and repeatedly pushed back. Qu Fangyi, who lives in Longshan Liye, is a street figure behind him, took the gun and mobilized the merchants in the back street to raise funds to set up a joint defense team to protect the street.

In the early years of the Republic of China, bandits in the Sichuan-Xiang border area became increasingly rampant. Because the back street was guarded by a joint defense team on duty, the bandits were afraid and never came to the door, but the front street was often robbed. Therefore, many merchants in the front street have moved to the back street to settle down. Soon, the backstreet became more and more prosperous than the front street and became the main street. The front street is still there, but the business is light, and whenever there is a rush, people have to go to the back street to trade. According to ferry statistics, there are 700,000 or 8,000 people from Baojing, Xiushan and other places across the river, who come to the back street to catch up. As a result, the front street is getting depressed, but the back street is thriving. Later, the front street was simply renamed "Clear Water Plain" and no longer part of Riye.

In 1911 (three years after the reunification), Riye established the Riye Branch of the Longshan County Chamber of Commerce.

In 1919 (the eighth year of the Republic of China), the modern democratic revolutionary and famous scholar Qu Sunlou (Liye people) came forward, contacted the Shanghai National Chamber of Commerce, and the record was approved, and the Riye Chamber of Commerce was formally established, and the first president, Yao Chunzhai, was established.

The Riye Chamber of Commerce, external contact information, opened up business channels in large and medium-sized cities such as Shanghai. For example, with the investment of Shanghai Zhonghua Bookstore, it and Zhai Yifu, vice president of the Riye Chamber of Commerce, jointly established the "Xiechang and Tongyouzhuang". Internally, they safeguard the business rights and interests of merchants, contact purchase and sale business, mediate disputes among merchants, and raise local welfare funds, collect management fees from the majority of merchants, arrange salaries for vigilante groups, and spend money on running schools. The Chamber of Commerce also gives preferential treatment to non-local businessmen, such as not charging management fees for two years, and welcomes them to open a business in Riye. As a result, foreign merchants continued to move into Riye to settle down and do business.

Jiangxi merchants, successively huang Taihe, Chen Wanyi, Yang Meishun, Dingxing gong, Zhi Dagong and other businesses, moved to Liye, began to deal in general merchandise, groceries, nanza, cloth, etc., and later operated tung oil and other local products. Later, more and more, they gathered together to form a "Jiangxi Street".

Changde's Jitaiheng, Zhentaiyuan, Fuchunheng, Yukang, Yongkang and other large commercial households gradually came to Liye to set up villages, and purchased a large number of local products such as tung oil, beizi, raw lacquer and cowhide; at the same time, a large number of cotton, cotton yarn, cloth, etc., began to buy and sell.

Some businesses in eastern Sichuan have also moved to Liye to settle down and open. There are more than 20 large and small businesses such as Wu Zhisheng, Ni Zhenmao, and Zhan Dingyuan in Youyang; there are more than 20 businesses in Xiushan, such as Tang Hengtai, Sheng Ruicheng, and Li Hongyi. Later, "Sichuan Street" was formed, and until now, they have multiplied for several generations.

There are more than 100 foreign merchants mentioned above, including those with business names and small and medium-sized shops that have not been registered as business names. The industries are flowers, yarn, cloth, silk forging, woolen wool, as well as stationery, nanza, iron pot, salt, traditional Chinese medicine, food processing, silk tobacco and so on. Its business methods are wholesale, retail, wholesale and retail. These goods were sold in large quantities to the vast rural areas of Longshan, Baojing, and Youyang and Xiushan in eastern Sichuan. Major companies have also acquired local products such as tung oil and beizi as return goods, and shipped and sold in Changde, Wuhan and other places. Later, the tung oil was processed into show oil and sold, and the profit was higher, so a business name specializing in show oil appeared. There have been nearly ten companies such as Peng Jinfeng, Ji Taiheng and Jiang Dexing, and tens of thousands of barrels of oil are shipped out every year. According to the old man who knew about it, the Jitaiheng family alone reached 7,000 or 8,000 barrels a year. The firm has 7 accountants and 6 apprentices, and has acquired tung oil processing for many years. During the transportation season, the ship is loaded every day, and it is also busy with "pleasure".

In 1934 (the twenty-third year of the Republic of China), the Riye Chamber of Commerce made a statistic, and there were 423 households and 750 employees in The town of Liye. This year, more than 30,000 barrels of tung oil were purchased and 32,000 barrels were shipped out (excluding those loaded and transshipped here in Youyang, Xiushan and Laifeng's Jiaodong). Other listed materials are also abundant. Every time the first and sixth lunar calendar rushes to the big field, the bulk commodities on the market on the day, such as more than 400 quintals of rice, about 130 quintals of grains, more than 15,000 catties of pork, more than 300 live pigs of large and small sizes, and more than 100 heads of cattle. In the peak season, the number of people rushing to the market reached more than 20,000, and in order to meet local needs, every third and eighth lunar calendar, there were more small farms, and there were many materials on the market. The materials transported this year were more than 100,000 catties of cotton alone, more than 1,000 pieces of cotton yarn, and more than 70,000 pieces of white cloth (3 zhang per horse). Seventy percent of them are sold to the countryside of the counties near eastern Sichuan. At that time, there was a saying that "Hunan cannot be bought, and Sichuan is dissatisfied with sales", which does tell the prosperity of the trade market in Liye Town. At this time, Liye merchants gathered, the economy was active, the distribution materials were abundant, the market was very prosperous, and it had become a famous market trade center in the Xiangchuan Border District and an economic center with developed longshan commerce.

Riez's flavored snacks also have a place in the market. Yongsan County pays attention to "eating", with Riye as the most important. I talked to a few elderly people, and they described Zhang Gougou's noodle shop to me in a vivid way. Sour and spicy noodles, noodles (that is, wontons), mung bean washing sand refreshing buns, chives fresh meat buns, sesame white sugar rich oil buns, fresh onions with meat fragrant flower rolls, etc., its color is delicious, its fragrance is impressive, its taste is endless, it can really be described as "once fortunate to taste this taste, ten years have no chance to leave a fragrance". Although this customer has done a little artistic exaggeration, he does say the characteristics of Zhang Gougou snacks. His noodles and dough skin are completely handmade, each pound of fine flour mixed with an egg, soy milk two or two, in the wooden board with bamboo bar pressed, eat crisp and tender, so every day customers are full of doors, and after eating for a long time unforgettable. The reason why his business is so prosperous is that in addition to the above grain color, there are the following reasons. One is to pay attention to hygiene, neat and beautiful tableware, and clean and clean restaurant windows; the second is to pay attention to taste, complete condiments, and adjusted; third, warm and thoughtful service, decent management style, quality and quantity. Gu Yun: "Furun House, Derun Heart". That's what makes his business so prosperous. For a long time, the chefs who operated restaurants and restaurants in Yongsan and in restaurants and canteens were almost all Riye people, and this is not without reason.

From 1925 (the fourteenth year of the Republic of China) to 1935 (the twenty-fourth year of the Republic of China), it was one of the peak periods of the commercial and economic development of The town of Riye. It has brought great development in all walks of life. Such as shipbuilding, water transportation, textile printing and dyeing industry, oil barrel making industry, timber industry, bamboo and wood furniture processing industry, Shoumu coffin industry, brick and tile industry, construction industry, as well as the Jianghu artists' Han opera, Sichuan opera, Taoist love, martial arts, magic and other singing industries, fortune telling, photo watching, witch doctors, and godmothers' activities, it is really a prosperous industry, it is difficult to say. In the second half of 1928 (the seventeenth year of the Republic of China), the Liye Chamber of Commerce began to issue silver tickets of the Chamber of Commerce, cashing them with the tickets, very trustworthy, not only the locals regarded it as the official currency, but also in the areas of Youyang, Xiushan, Qianjiang and Pengshui in eastern Sichuan.
