There are several versions of the "Alliance of the Golden Plateau", and Sima Guang describes the "two legends" in the "Tale of Shuishui". When Empress Dowager Zhaoxiandu, Zhao Kuangyin and Zhao Guangyi's mother, were dying, he once asked Zhao Kuangyin, "Ru knows that he has the world?" Zhao Kuangyin could not answer, and after Empress Du repeatedly asked, he said that it was because of Zu Shang's accumulation of virtue. Empress Dowager Du said, "Otherwise, it is the Chai clan that will make the young children's ears in the world." Therefore, on her deathbed, she repeatedly told Zhao Kuangyin: "After Ru long live, when the second brother of the second transmission is passed on, then the son of Ru will also be given peace." The meaning is to let Zhao Kuangyin pass the throne to his younger brother Zhao Guangyi in the future, so that Zhao Kuangyin's son and Zhao Song jiangshan can be safe. After Zhao Kuangyin agreed, Empress Dowager Du asked Zhao Pu, the chancellor who was serving at her side, to write down the oath he had just made, and "hide the golden dagger, and order the people of the secret palace to take charge of it." ”
Three legends
Song Taizong Zhao Guangyi
Wang Yuwei, a famous scholar of the Northern Song Dynasty, recorded another version of the "Alliance of the Golden Plateau" in the "Testament of Jianlong": once Empress Du presided over a family banquet in the palace, and her three sons: Zhao Kuangyin, Zhao Guangyi, Zhao Tingmei, and all the grandchildren and granddaughters were present. When the family was drunk, Zhao Kuangyin stood up and said to Empress Dowager Du: "After a hundred years, the throne of the subject will be passed on to the King of Jin, and the king of Jin will be passed on to the King of Qin after a hundred years." The King of Jin refers to Zhao Guangyi, and the King of Qin refers to the third brother Zhao Guangmei. Empress Dowager Du was very happy when she heard this, and she said that in future generations, there will be a good story that "a woman gives birth to three heavenly sons", and then she asked the King of Jin and the King of Qin to toast to Zhao Kuangyin and express his gratitude.
Zhao Tingmei
After a while, Empress Dowager Du said to these two sons: "Your eldest brother was born in cloth clothes, and only after being born and dying for many years did he sit in the position of emissary of Jiedushi. Now that you have been emperor for almost ten years, and still march south and fight in the north, it is your luck that the two brothers have enjoyed their success without experiencing his difficulties! Therefore, you must not fail him. In addition, if the throne really passed to King Guangmei of Qin, who would it be passed on to? The King of Qin stood up and said, "May the King of Nanyang Bezhao be established." When Empress Dowager Du heard this, she was overjoyed and swore to heaven: "He will not be able to be killed in each day, and those who sin against him will be the same as the great rebellion, and the heavens will perish." Then he ordered Zhao Pu to write down today's agreement and give it to Zhao Guangyi, the King of Jin, for preservation.
The authenticity of the Golden Alliance

Although the true content of the "Alliance of the Golden Plateau" has long been lost and cannot be verified, at least in the history books of the Song Dynasty, this covenant has always been regarded as the legitimate reason for The ascension of Zhao Guangyi to the throne of Emperor Taizong of Song, which also explains why Zhao Kuangyin never made a prince during his 16-year reign, but instead made Zhao Guangyi the King of Jin and the Governor of Kaifeng.
However, since the "Golden Alliance" had already been formulated during Empress Du's lifetime, why did it not publish this important document until six years after Zhao Guangyi ascended the throne? According to the "Two Legends", when the covenant was formulated, Zhao Guangyi was no longer on the scene, and the only one who knew this secret was Zhao Pu, and its authenticity was very low. If the "Three Legends" are true, then the entire Zhao family and important imperial court officials know of the existence of this covenant, in this case Zhao Tingmei, Zhao Dezhao and Zhao Defang have died mysteriously, and Zhao Tingmei has been identified as not Empress Du's flesh and bones, and Zhao Guangyi has no guilt in his heart?
