Li Fangyi served as an official in the Qing Dynasty for twenty years before and after, and at the age of sixty-one, he was tired of the deceit of corrupt officialdom, and stopped being an official after he retired from the county seat in Hefei. After Li Fang was deposed, he lived in Jinling Borrowing Garden in Nanjing, claiming to be the owner of the garden, often traveling to Andhyo to sell paintings for food and clothing, during which he was very close to Yuan Ming, a literary titan at that time, and the painter Shen Feng, talking about poetry and painting, not asking about politics, leisurely wandering, living a comfortable life, and producing a large number of calligraphy and painting works.
