For OEMs, the importance of on-board power batteries in the era of electric vehicles is beyond doubt. Battery performance not only directly determines the mileage of electric vehicles, becoming one of the most important indicators for people to buy electric vehicles; at the same time, power batteries also account for more than 40% of the cost of the vehicle, becoming an important benchmark for the pricing of OEMs. Therefore, any wind and grass of the battery is a big event related to the stability of the supply chain for the main engine factory, and it must not be sloppy. In the past for a long time, the jianghu status of the Ningde era was more similar to that of Bosch in the era of fuel vehicles, and the main engine factory had no way to leave the Ningde era, and the Ningde era did not worry about not having its own customers. Once this situation occurs, it will inevitably be intolerable to the main engine factory.
It is no accident that AVIC lithium batteries are killed halfway
In fact, purely from the current market share, although the Ningde era occupies more than 50% of the domestic battery market, if you carefully study the specific situation, the situation is not as completely free as the Ningde era stock.
In the first camp of the new forces to build cars, in addition to Weilai, Xiaopeng also introduced AVIC lithium battery products in the Ningde era as the second one to supply its own batteries, which caused great dissatisfaction in the Ningde era. As for the ideal, the current range extender technology route used in China has less demand for batteries itself, and it is not known whether several pure electric models in the future will use the batteries of the Ningde era. As for Tesla, it is rumored that it will purchase lithium iron phosphate batteries from BYD this year to reduce costs.
Among the traditional car companies, BYD and GAC E-An, which lead the domestic car market, are not products of the Ningde era. As the biggest competitor of the Ningde era in China, BYD naturally pushes its own blade battery, and GAC Aian has been suspicious of the Ningde era after experiencing several consecutive spontaneous combustion cases in Aion S in 2019. At that time, the Aion S was positioned as the electric vehicle with the longest mileage, and the hero behind this was the NCM811 battery, a high-nickel product of the Ningde era. However, the spontaneous combustion case after the listing of Aion S not only pushed the Ningde era, but also pushed itself to the cusp of the storm. In the later period, after GAC Aean switched the battery supplier to the product of AVIC lithium battery, it did not see any more reports of spontaneous combustion, of course, this also needs time to verify.
For the main engine factory, the battery is so important, then the safety of the battery supply chain is the top priority. In this case, if the market has a choice, no car company will be willing to put eggs in one basket. At present, in addition to the Ningde era, many other battery companies have gradually emerged. For OEMs, whether from their own supply chain or from the perspective of their own right to speak, developing a second supplier outside the Ningde era will become the norm.
Underlying technological innovation urgently needs to be remedied
In fact, in addition to AVIC lithium battery, BYD, which has launched blade batteries, One-Stop battery technology launched by AVIC Lithium Battery, "short blade" battery launched by Hive Energy, magazine battery developed by GAC and ternary iron lithium battery developed by Weilai itself, etc., actually have their own distinctive characteristics, and in terms of performance, they are not necessarily much behind their own products in the Ningde era, and even in some aspects, there are certain advantages compared to the Ningde era. In terms of AVIC Lithium Battery's One-Stop battery technology and products, the energy density of its ternary battery system has exceeded 280Wh/kg, which has technically surpassed the Ningde era, and under the premise of maintaining 80% of the capacity, it can achieve more than 3,000 cycles and support 800,000 kilometers in 10 years.
The Ningde era may only be the recent introduction of sodium-ion batteries, which has attracted certain market attention. However, the low energy density of the sodium-ion battery itself, determined by its physicochemical properties, is difficult to compensate for no matter how the engineering process is carried out in the later stage. For passenger cars, even entry-level passenger cars are not necessarily suitable. Therefore, even if its cost is low, it is difficult to be widely used in the field of electric vehicles, and its better application scenario should be in energy storage projects. In addition, in recent years, the Ningde era has made more achievements in the battery field, such as promoting the unification of charging interfaces of major car companies, actively promoting the improvement of "new infrastructure" projects such as charging piles and substations, and actively promoting the promotion of new battery integration layout technologies such as CTP and CTC, but these have not helped the NINGDE era to build a leading edge for competitors.
The label of the Ningde era is no longer so beautiful
In the years when the new forces car models were just listed, the Ningde era would be regarded as the current Qualcomm chip, which was repeatedly mentioned as a label. In that era when batteries were very sensitive to spontaneous combustion, the Ningde era was the endorsement of safety. But nowadays, it is rare to see car companies consciously or unconsciously announce that the battery they use is a product of the Ningde era when promoting their products.
More information is that CATL has participated in the investment of new brands including Byton, Aichi and Avita, and has laid out a lot of lithium resources upstream of lithium batteries. There is no problem with the strategy of caterer era to promote its layout in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, but this cannot become the focus of the decentralized CATL era on the main business. Previously, some people said that domestic solid-state battery technology is five years behind Japanese car companies. Once the commercial application of solid-state batteries matures, it is bound to completely overturn the current pattern of lithium batteries. As the leader of domestic battery brands, we actually hope to see the Ningde era have a greater breakthrough in technologies such as solid-state batteries, which will become the highlight of other brands' external publicity when releasing new models in the future: our new cars use solid-state batteries in the Ningde era. Only a breakthrough in core technology can support the label of "NINGDE ERA INSIDE".
