After Chiang Kai-shek learned the news, he was depressed and could not eat, and made a posture of hunger strike and death, and later under the persuasion of Chiang Ching-kuo and others, he barely ate a little food, and since he did not die, he had to consider how to live, and Xikou's hometown was not a place to stay for a long time.
After Chiang Kai-shek issued a statement on New Year's Day 1949 to retire behind the scenes, on January 5, Chiang Kai-shek sent his confidant Chen Cheng to Taiwan to take up a post, followed by a large amount of gold reserves transported to Taiwan, as well as a large number of precious cultural relics.
Chiang Kai-shek also considered where he would go in case Taiwan fell, so on July 10, 1949, Chiang Kai-shek visited the Philippines to negotiate with The Then Philippine President Tirino to test whether he could take refuge in the Philippines.
At that time, Kirino declared at a press conference, "If Chiang proposes this plan, we will inevitably refuse." With This statement of Kirino, Chiang Kai-shek seems to be much more down-to-earth, but he has not given up defending Taiwan and tried his best to hold on to Taiwan.
For this reason, after Chiang Kai-shek arrived in Taiwan in 1949, he immediately sent Soong Mei-ling to the United States for help, and Soong Mei-ling ran into a wall in the United States and felt that the Americans would not help defend Taiwan, so he telegraphed Chiang Kai-shek and advised him to prepare for going to Switzerland, but Chiang Kai-shek did not care.
Because in Chiang Kai-shek's view, even if the People's Liberation Army came, there were at least two or three days left, which was enough to escape, but then there were rumors that Chiang Kai-shek planned to take refuge in Switzerland, and Chiang Kai-shek was very angry when he found out, saying that he would rather go to Japan than Switzerland.
Chiang Kai-shek was angry because such rumors would affect the morale of the army and would be detrimental to the defense of Taiwan, but then the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea began, and Chiang Kai-shek was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
So what did Chiang Kai-shek say about going to Japan? It turned out that after the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, China, as a victorious country, did not pursue Japan's compensation, and Chiang Kai-shek even made a public speech, throwing out the words of "repaying grievances with virtue" and "being kind to others," which won the favor of the Japanese people.
The Japanese also built the "Chiang Kai-shek Shrine" for Chiang Kai-shek, and the "shrine" occupies a very high position in the minds of the Japanese and is a place of spiritual sustenance, and the construction of a shrine for Chiang Kai-shek shows the respect and gratitude of the Japanese for Chiang Kai-shek.
The Japanese people and officials praised Chiang Kai-shek, and it is precisely on this basis that Chiang Kai-shek has a good feeling for Japan, and he believes that he has no problem going to Japan, so he has said the remark that "going to Japan and not going to Switzerland", but the only desirable thing for Chiang Kai-shek is that he always adheres to one China.
