In 1950, the PLA Railway Corps Cadre School was established in Beijing, relocated to Luoyang at the end of the same year, relocated to Shijiazhuang in 1951, renamed the PLA Railway Corps School in 1954, incorporated into the Chongqing Military Traffic School in 1958, changed to the PLA First Railway Corps School in 1961, upgraded to the PLA Railway Corps Academy in 1962, changed to the PLA Railway Corps Technical School in 1976, and re-upgraded to the PLA Railway Corps Engineering College in 1978. In 1979, it became one of the key undergraduate colleges in China. In 1984, it was directly subordinate to the Ministry of Railways and changed to Shijiazhuang Railway College, and in 1993, the Secondary School Was Independent (now Shijiazhuang Railway Vocational and Technical College), obtained a master's degree in 1998, and was decentralized to the provincial government in 2000. In 2009, it became a doctoral degree project construction unit, in 2010 it was renamed Shijiazhuang Railway University, and in 2013, it obtained a doctoral program, and the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau and Hebei Province jointly built Shijiazhuang Railway University. In 2015, the Ministry of Education, the State Railway Administration and Hebei Province jointly established Shijiazhuang Railway University.

It has 3 campuses with a total area of more than 2900 acres, of course, the Sifang Campus occupies 1 or 2 campuses. There are a total of 19 second-level colleges with 51 undergraduate majors. There are 1,800 faculty members, including more than 1,000 full-time teachers, 240 professors, 450 associate professors, and the school also has 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
