Duan Suquan was an old Red Army soldier who served as the political commissar of the division during his time in the Red Army, but in 1933 he covered the main force, and after the troops were exhausted, he lost contact with the large troops and returned to his hometown. The 8th Column is a unit that dares to fight, and the former commander Huang Yongsheng built this unit into a very tenacious fighting style. He lost twice in the Battle of Jinzhou in the Liaoshen Campaign, much to the chagrin of chief of staff Liu Yalou.
Immediately after the Liaoshen Campaign, he was transferred from the Northeast Field Army to the Northeast Military Region as the chief of staff.
