Germany prepares legislation: home network bandwidth is at least 10Mbps and latency is less than 150ms

Specifically, the german regulatory authorities recommend that the bandwidth of home broadband be no less than 10Mbps, the uplink rate not less than 1.3Mbps, and the latency not higher than 150ms. The president of the German Network Bureau said the new law aims to give all citizens access to all basic Internet services, telecommuting and video streaming within the usual range.

IT House has learned that the new law does not limit a fixed value of 10Mbps, and the lower internet speed limit needs to be rechecked and updated annually to keep up with technological developments. However, foreign media said that the construction of network infrastructure resources in Germany is relatively scarce, and if too much investment is invested in the basic network, it may affect the construction of optical fiber networks.

Deutsche Telekom (DT) said this month that fiber optic networks will be deployed twice as fast as in 2020, with more than 70,000 kilometers of fiber installed. There are currently 1.2 million households in Germany with fiber deployed, with the goal of achieving a fiber network of 10 million households by 2024.
