As for the sudden death of the Jiaqing Emperor at the Chengde Mountain Resort, it was indeed unexpected. However, due to the mysterious nature of the emperor's life, there are many versions of the legend of the death of the Jiaqing Emperor in the folk.
So, what are the three folk legends?
The first is that the Jiaqing Emperor was on vacation in the mountain villa that year, and he felt that his body was not very comfortable, so he lay in bed, and at that time, under the conditioning of the imperial doctor, there was no major situation. In September 1820, the weather in Rehe was quite muggy, just like the yellow plum season in the south, and it was particularly prone to thunderstorms and strong winds. On the 2nd, lightning happened, and this thunderous day hit the Jiaqing Emperor's resting palace impartially, and immediately killed the Jiaqing Emperor.
The second kind, said that after the Jiaqing Emperor arrived at the Chengde Mountain Resort, after a little rest, he went directly to the Mulan paddock to hunt, and for some reason, the hunt did not hit any animals, and the depressed Jiaqing Emperor decided to return to Beijing in advance, who knew that on the way back, the Jiaqing Emperor suddenly thundered in the sky and hit the Jiaqing Emperor alone.
Third, it is more outrageous. It is said that Jiaqing had a broken back with a certain little eunuch, and the Jiaqing Emperor's trip to Chengde, this little eunuch was also among the peers. On this day, the two of them were looking for joy in the Smoke Wave Zhi Shuang Temple. Suddenly, the lightning went straight through the window and killed Jiaqing.
In short, these three folk legends all say that Jiaqing's death was related to lightning, because there was no meteorological data record at that time, and it was impossible to verify. If you follow the inference, that period of time in the Chengde area may be a period of lightning and lightning, otherwise all the legends would not be related to lightning.
So, what about the official historical records of the situation at that time?
On July 18, 1820, the 25th year of Jiaqing(1820), The Jiaqing Emperor's Luan set off from the Yuanmingyuan and headed to the Rehe Mountain Resort, 250 kilometers away.
According to the custom set by the ancestors, the emperor of the dynasty would live in the mountain villa until after Liqiu, and go to the Mulan Paddock near Xilin Gol in present-day Inner Mongolia to hold the Autumn Festival, in order to show that he did not forget the hardships of the family's horse world.
At that time, the officials accompanying him were Mianning the Prince of Zhi, the fourth son of the Emperor, Mianxin the Prince of Rui, the Minister of internal affairs, the Imperial Family Xi'en and He Shitai, the Chief Military Minister, the Dongge University Shitojin, the Wenyuange University Shidai Junyuan, the Hubu Shangshu Lu Yinpu, the Hubu Shilang Wenfu, and the former imperial ministers Sai Chong'a and Sotnam Dorji.
On the 24th (September 1), the Jiaqing Emperor was fine, and in addition to handling some daily administrative affairs, he also appointed and dismissed some officials, such as promoting Zhu Shiyan of zhan shifu to a cabinet scholar, and also issuing bonuses to the staff of the manor.
