Beijing, December 24 (China News Network) (Reporter Sun Zifa) The 2021 edition of the "Catalogue of Biological Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" was officially released in Beijing on the 24th, bringing together 72 biological resource libraries from 40 research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and more than 7.43 million biological resources data, including biological specimens, plant resources, biological genetic resources, laboratory animal resources and biodiversity monitoring network resources, which has formed a complete data ecosystem.

This is the third consecutive year that the Information Center of the Strategic Biological Resources Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has released the Catalogue of Biological Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to the public. At present, the released biological resource data and related achievements are all open to the society through the network information portal, effectively promoting the integration, sharing and support of the national biological resources data.

The annual meeting of the Strategic Biological Resources Information Work of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the release of the biological resources catalogue and information application results of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were held at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the same day, and the Biological Resources Catalogue of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was released at the same time as the Strategic Biological Resources Information Platform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the International Sustainable Development Big Data Platform.

The Information Center of the Strategic Biological Resources Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that as a national strategic scientific and technological force, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has always attached importance to the preservation and innovative research of biological resources. In 2016, the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the Strategic Biological Resources Program (BRP), which has been running for 6 years and formed a "5+3+1" network framework, that is, 5 resource collection and preservation platforms, including biological herbariums (museums), botanical gardens, biological genetic resources banks, laboratory animal platforms, biodiversity monitoring and research networks; 3 resource evaluation and transformation platforms, including plant germplasm resources innovation platform, natural compound discovery and evaluation transformation platform, and genetic biological resources derivation database Establishment of a Strategic Biological Resources Plan Information Centre.

At the press conference on the same day, the achievements of informatization application of various resource platforms of the Strategic Biological Resources Plan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including the construction and application results of the digital platform of the herbarium, the construction and application of the biological genetic resources information platform, the construction and application of the experimental animal information platform, the biodiversity detection network supporting China's biodiversity conservation achievements, the big data supporting the detection and monitoring of harmful fungi, and the construction and application results of the botanical garden information platform were also released one by one.

It is understood that biological resources are the most basic material basis for human reproduction and development, mainly including animals, plants, microbial organisms and the communities, populations and ecosystems composed of them. China is one of the countries with the richest biological resources in the world, ranking among the top in the world in terms of both type and quantity. Strengthening the protection, research and utilization of strategic biological resources is of great significance.

The world's major economies attach great importance to the protection and research of biological resources, and invest a lot of money every year to carry out major scientific programs related to animals, plants and microbiome, and comprehensively lay out the protection and research of biological resources. At the same time, a long-term preservation and utilization system has also been built in animal resources, plant resources, microbial resources, specimen resources, etc., forming a whole chain support for innovation and service.
