The new work "The Ship of Theseus", which was created by young Chinese dance artist Hu Shenyuan and his studio team for two years, was recently synthesized by a stage installation at the Performing Arts Center's Coliseum with the special support of the Guangming Culture and Arts Center. The work will also have its global premiere at the Bright Arts Center in March 2022.
This work, produced by Hu Shenyuan as a producer, and at the same time as a director, dance drama construction, choreography, stage concept design, and actor seven-fold identity, will be the first solo dance drama in China. Hu Shen will use a 60-minute solo dance to complete a very challenging stage performance. The difficulty of the solo dance form seems to be a road he wants to explore. The dance drama "The Ship of Theseus" uses the boat as a clue to construct the story of young people who are not afraid of difficulties and strive to chase their dreams in the contemporary context. Life is a big ship that is constantly armed, and we have always been on the ship, which is also the meaning discussed in the concept of the work "The Ship of Theseus", the boat carries childhood memories, promotes young people to sail, records time and years, and dreams for a long time. The play uses a new dance vocabulary, a variety of juxtaposed media means of expression, and the thoughts of life in the "boat" that speak of virtual reality. As the resident artist of guangming culture and art center, Hu Shenyuan not only shoulders the mission of art creators, but also uses his artistic influence to promote the continuous development of guangming cultural and artistic undertakings.
This dance drama will be the result of promoting the creative transformation and development of dance art, an innovative exploration with artistic value and communication value, and the starting point of Hu Shenyuan's own resource endowment.
