The "Ship of Theseus," one of the oldest thought experiments in Western philosophy, raises the question: If all the components of an object are replaced, is it still the same object it was? The dance drama tells the story of a person who, at the time of his death, climbs over the wall of memory and discovers a dream that has been stranded, so he travels through different time and space to find the fragments of dreams and beliefs.
This two-year dance theater work is a self-challenge for Hu Shenyuan, in which he is also a producer, producer, director, dance drama composition, choreography, stage concept design, and actor, in the form of the first solo dance drama in China, to convey to the audience "behind all the halos, adhere to the original heart that wants to dance on the stage". The works are rich in form, and the unique integration of Elements such as Sichuan Opera Face Change and Peking Opera into dance, breaking the use of faces in traditional opera, using the alternating replacement of masks to show the course of life, outlining a new inner expression and character image, and touching the audience's perception.
In terms of visual presentation, the surreal pure white stage with multiple changes is wrapped in a black box, providing the audience with a cleaner and deeper look. The use of props such as boats, small puppets, and climbing ladders has built a multi-dimensional world with a sense of space and time on an open stage, and broadened the performance scene of solo dance. Through the new dance vocabulary, the media expression means of diversified integration, and the avant-garde experimental spirit, Hu Shenyuan's thinking on "new and old" and "past and future" and his adherence to the original intention are conveyed.
With the theme of "Let the Light of Art Shine into the City of Science", the "Guangming Art Festival" will present 42 sets of 50 performances, 5 exhibitions and dozens of different types of activities.
