As early as the Qin Dynasty, the folk spread that "there is a royal atmosphere in the southeast". During the Five Hu and Sixteen Kingdoms period, the Xianbei Tuoba clan entered the Central Plains and established a powerful Northern Wei Dynasty. After Tuoba Xianbei entered the Central Plains, their grassland homeland was gradually occupied by the Ruoran Khanate. In order to resist the harassment of Rouran's cavalry, Emperor Daowu established six military towns north of the capital Pingcheng (present-day Datong) – Woye, Huaishuo, Wuchuan, Fumu, Rouxuan, and Huaihuang. To this end, he also migrated a large number of Hu and Han people to shubian, and the six towns became a place where elite soldiers gathered in the world.
However, the good times did not last long, and Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei carried out Sinicization reforms and moved the capital to Luoyang. The Xianbei nobles living in the Central Plains were immersed in the Chinese style and gradually assimilated by the Han people, and the language customs were no different from those of the Han scholars.
Due to the relocation of the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the status of the six towns plummeted. Correspondingly, the treatment of the soldiers of the six towns also became extremely bad. At the same time, the Six Towns soldiers failed to be affected by the Sinicization reforms and still maintained their former customs, causing them to deviate from the Humble Nobles of Luoyang. Thus, a large-scale uprising was brewing in the vast desert steppe.
Wuchuan Town, originally one of the six towns, and in the Northern Wei Dynasty, there was a story circulating: a Xiangshi once passed through Wuchuan Town, he was suddenly surprised to find that the people here have the appearance of an emperor and a general, but looking at their eating and wearing, they are extremely poor, and there is not even a trace of wealth. As a result, Xiangshi thought that all the xiangshu he had learned was absurd and vain, so he burned all his photo books. However, he did not think that his photo book did not fail.
In 524 AD, the townspeople of Woye took the lead in attacking the Six Han Tombs, triggering a massive Uprising of the Six Towns. Under the impact of the rebel army, the rule of the Northern Wei Dynasty collapsed, the power of the imperial government was controlled by the powerful minister Erzhu Rong, and the rebel army of the Six Towns was mostly subjugated by the imperial court.
Among the rebels, there were two heavyweights, namely Yuwen Tai of Wuchuan Town and Gao Huan of Huaishuo Town. Taking advantage of the great chaos in the world, they divided the Northern Wei Dynasty into two parts, one occupying Guanzhong, the other occupying Hebei and the Central Plains, and becoming the masters of the Western Wei and Eastern Wei respectively.
Compared with the Eastern Wei, which occupied the essence of the world, the Western Wei who was partial to Guanzhong was very weak. During the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Xianbei Iron Horse was the main military force of the country, and its status was very important. At that time, most of the Xianbei were concentrated in the Central Plains, so Gao Huan's Xianbei iron horses reached 100,000. In contrast, Yuwen Tai had more than 10,000 humble talents in his hands. As a result, Western Wei was repeatedly defeated by Eastern Wei, and the nascent regime was in jeopardy.
In order to strengthen his military strength, Yuwen Tai decided to expand the ruling class and absorb Han Chinese into the upper echelons. In Wuchuan Town, there are not only Hu people, but also Han Haoqiang who have migrated from all over the world, including Li Hu, Li Bi and others. Subsequently, Yuwen Tai adopted the organizational form of the Xianbei Eight Departments, absorbed the Huhua Han people in Wuchuan Town, and formed a new system of generals of the Eight Pillar States, and also established the famous prefectural military system.
In order to emphasize the Xianbei attribute of the Western Wei, Yuwen Tai gave all the Han important subjects in the group the xianbei surname. For example, Li Hu was given the surname of Daye, Li Bi was given the surname of Tu He, Zhao Gui was given the clan of The Buddha, and Yang Zhong was given the pu liu ru clan. In this way, the Hu and Han people in Wuchuan Town were closely united to form the famous "Guanlong Group".
On the one hand, Yuwen Tai gave the Han people the surname xianbei, but on the other hand, he was committed to the integration of Hu and Han, and there was no discrimination against the Han people. On the other hand, Gao Huan of the Eastern Wei Dynasty, although he was a Huhua Han chinese, had no sense of identification with his compatriots of his own blood, and indulged the Xianbei people to discriminate against the Han people. In the Eastern Wei Dynasty, the status of the Han people was very low, and they were often scolded as "untouchables" and "one-money hans", and even in the court, some Han officials were also scolded as "dog hans".
Yuwentai expanded his rule through national reconciliation. On the other hand, the monarchs of Northern Qi were intensifying ethnic contradictions, which eventually led to alienation from Germany. In any period of time, national integration is the trend of the times, and engaging in ethnic discrimination will only lead to self-destruction in the end.
With the passage of time, Western Wei gradually transformed into Northern Zhou, and Eastern Wei transformed into Northern Qi. Although Northern Qi once dominated the battlefield for a time, it was not an opponent of the Northern Zhou soldiers after all. In addition, The Northern Zhou Emperor Yuwen Yong was a wise monarch, and he immediately exerted great efforts to govern, and eventually made the northern Zhou's national strength surpass northern Qi. After many conquests, Northern Qi eventually died in Northern Zhou. In addition to the Chen Dynasty in the south, nine-tenths of the land under the heavens had already fallen into the hands of northern Zhou.
In 581, Yang Jian, a foreign relative and one of the generals of the Pillar State, usurped the Northern Zhou state and established the Sui Dynasty. He changed back to the Han surname, announcing the return of the Han family. In 618, Li Hu's grandson Li Yuan established the Tang Dynasty. From the Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, the state's major policies were actually constantly shifting within the Guanlong clique. Although the dynasty was changing, the wealth and power of the Military Aristocracy of Guanlong were not greatly affected, whether it was the Yuwen clan, the Dou clan, the Changsun clan or the Yang clan, in each dynasty, they could occupy high positions, either as generals or prime ministers.
In short, the humble Wuchuan has emerged with the emperors of three dynasties and countless emperors and generals, which can really be described as a place where the king's spirit gathers. The xiangshi's prediction was actually not wrong at all.
