In order to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the French writer Flaubert, the People's Literature Publishing House recently published the "Grid Book" ("Foreign Literary Masterpieces Series") editions of "Madame Bovary", "Emotional Education" and "Flaubert's Complete Novels". Recently, the Humanities Society and Douban jointly held a "Why Do We Have to Read Madame Bovary" reading sharing meeting in the "Douban x WeWork City Parlor". Professor Che Lin of Beijing University of Foreign Chinese and Zhang Yueran, associate professor of the School of Literature of Chinese University, were invited to talk on the spot, and Ouyang Tao, director of the Foreign Literature Editorial Office of the People's Literature Publishing House, presided over the reading sharing meeting.
It is understood that the "Complete Works of Flaubert's Novels" launched by the Humanities Society this time is included in "Madame Bovary", "Sarangpo", "Emotional Education", "The Temptation of Saint Anthony", "Three Stories", "Bouvard and Pecuche", accompanied by "Flaubert Literary Brief" and "Flaubert's Life and Creation Chronology", translated by Li Jianwu, Liu Yiyu, Liu Fang, Wang Wenrong, He Youqi and other famous French literary translators, and edited by translator Xia Wei (Ai Min).
The guests at the event took Flaubert's masterpiece "Madame Bovary" as the starting point, Che Lin introduced flaubert's life and the creation process of "Madame Bovary", and the guests had an in-depth discussion on the necessity of reading "Madame Bovary" in today's era. Che Lin tells the translation of Li Kengo's version of Madame Bovary from the perspective of language and translation. Zhang Yueran talked about her influence by Flaubert, calling Madame Bovary her "book of life", and as a contemporary creator, she also talked about her vision of the situation of "Emma" in the 21st century. Finally, the audience listened to the two guests recite the fragment of "Madame Bovary" in Chinese and French respectively, and experienced the beauty of the original text and Mr. Li Jianwu's translation together.
