In his later years, as Emperor Wu of Han's physical condition became worse and worse, his suspicion of the people around him grew, and in order to eliminate all those who might endanger his status and life, he used the "scourge of witchcraft" to kill and turn the entire Chang'an City into a huge "killing field". Many people died in the "scourge of witchcraft", including Empress Wei Zifu and Crown Prince Liu Zhao (i.e., Prince Wei, or "Prince Huan" according to his epithet).
In his later years, Emperor Wu of Han guessed and killed well, and even the crown prince Liu Zhao did not let go
Four years after the end of the "Curse of the Witches", Emperor Wu of Han died, and before his death, he issued an edict to let his young son Liu Fuling take the throne (Emperor Zhao of Han) and be ruled by the general Huo Guang. However, at the beginning of Emperor Zhao's reign, people were unstable, and the policies promoted by Huo Guang violated the rights and interests of many people, so there were many people inside and outside the imperial court who missed the late crown prince Liu Zhao, and many people opposed Huo Guang, thus providing a good opportunity for some people to create turmoil under the banner of the late prince. One of the most serious occurred in the 6th year of the reign of Emperor Zhao of Han.
In the fifth year of the first century (82 BC), a mysterious figure suddenly appeared on the streets of Chang'an. The man rode in a yellow calf cart surrounded by flags painted with turtles and snakes, wearing a long yellow robe and a yellow hat, and then rode all the way to the north of the palace, claiming to be the Prince of Wei to the gatekeeper, and now he was about to enter the palace to reset. Although Liu had been officially declared dead for 9 years at this time, the bus order did not dare to openly question and interrogate the people, so he had to hurriedly report the situation to Emperor Zhao of Han and the general Huo Guang.
Although Liu Zhu is dead, there are many rumors about him
After the emperor and the general listened to the report, they also panicked for a while, and in the midst of fear, they even issued an edict asking all the ministers to gather in the Northern Que to identify whether the person was really Prince Wei. Although Liu Zhao's death was characterized by Emperor Wu as a "traitor" and he also received a vicious title of "戾", many ministers privately felt very sorry for him and felt that he had died unjustly. Moreover, Liu Zhi died in other places, and his body was not transported back to the Beijing Division, but was hastily buried in the local area, so the Beijing Division has always had rumors that he was not actually dead, but hiding somewhere.
In the fifth year of the first century, a man rode in a yellow calf car, built a yellow calf, dressed in yellow robes, wore yellow hair, and called himself the Prince of Wei. The bus smelled and ordered the secretary of state, the general, and the middle two thousand stones to look at it. The officials in Chang'an gathered tens of thousands of spectators. For the appearance of the "Prince of Wei", Emperor Han Zhao was overwhelmed
Therefore, when the ministers saw the comers, some people said that they were Prince Wei, while many more people were silent, neither daring to say yes nor saying no. In the midst of this extreme embarrassment, the officials and people in Chang'an City came to watch after hearing the news, and the number of people was as many as tens of thousands, and for a time the crowds were crowded and the voices of the people were boiling, so it was not lively. In this case, once someone advocated for the restoration of Prince Wei, it was very likely to lead to an incident, so the emperor, the generals, and courtiers were extremely nervous, and ordered the Janissaries to stand by to prevent emergencies.
Just when the emperor, the great general, and the courtiers were at a loss, Jing Zhaoyinjun did not doubt that he had arrived at the right time, and without saying a word, he commanded his subordinates to move, and the people would be arrested and brought back to Yamen for interrogation. At this time, some ministers stepped forward to dissuade Jun, saying that it was not clear whether this person was really Prince Wei, and it seemed inappropriate to rush to take down the interrogation ("Jing Zhaoyin did not doubt that after arriving, Ling was bound by the officials." Or: 'Right or wrong is unknowable, and it is safe.' Ibid.).
Jun buqi ordered the arrest of the "Prince of Wei" to calm the storm
Unexpectedly, Jun bu doubted that he did not think so at all, and told this minister that during the Spring and Autumn Period, the Prince of Weiguo, Ji Kuo, fled because he disobeyed his father Wei Linggong, and when his son Ji Yuan inherited the throne (Wei Chugong) and Ji Kuoyun wanted to return to China, he was still rejected by his son, which was deeply praised by Confucius and was published in the Spring and Autumn. Now, even if the person who came was really Prince Wei, because he had previously offended his father Emperor Wu of Han, he should still be arrested and sentenced as a criminal after he returned, without any doubt.
There is no doubt: "Why are the princes suffering from Prince Wei!" Xi Kuo ran out against the order, and did not accept the distance, "Spring and Autumn" is it. Prince Wei offended the former emperor, and if he died, he would die, and now he is a sinner. "Then he sent him to prison. Ibid.
Due to the unquestionable momentum, this storm was resolved, and Emperor Han Zhao and Huo Guang also breathed a sigh of relief. After interrogation, the person who came was actually a magician with the name of Fang Sui. According to Fang Sui's confession, it was only because when Prince Wei's former subordinate officials came to him to calculate his fortune, they accidentally mentioned that he looked very much like the old prince, so he made him temporarily take up his mind and pretend to be the old prince to enter the capital in order to seek wealth. After the case was concluded, Fang was sentenced to be beheaded.
After the storm, Huo Guang was very serious about Jun
After this storm, Jun's reputation in the court was greatly enhanced, and other courtiers were ashamed of themselves. The general Huo Guang, in order to win him over, wanted to marry his daughter to him, but the latter politely refused. Many years later, Jun bu was dismissed from office due to illness and eventually died at home. Because of his strict law enforcement and his majestic but not cruel disposition, the people of Chang'an missed him after his death.
