IT Home has learned that the report shows that Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Samsung LSI and Tsinghua Unigroup rank in the top five in the market revenue share of smartphone application processors.

Among them, Qualcomm ranked first with a revenue share of 34%, followed by Apple (28%) and MediaTek (27%).

According to Strategy Analytics, MediaTek led Qualcomm with 26 million units shipped in the first nine months of 2021. As a result, MediaTek is expected to be the top 1 in smartphone application processor shipments for the first time, based on the 2021 fiscal year.

Qualcomm has abandoned low- to mid-tier 4G application processors to focus on application processors in the high-end and high-price segments, making it possible to take full advantage of available foundry capacity, the report said. As a result, MediaTek has captured the shipment share of 4G application processors through its Helio A/G/P lineup.

Shipments of 5G application processors increased by 82% compared to the same period last year, increasing the overall average selling price of application processors by 19%.

Qualcomm's high-end application processor, the Snapdragon 888/888+, was the best-selling Android app processor of the quarter.

TSMC's smartphone app processor shipments accounted for three-quarters of total shipments in Q3 2021, followed by Samsung Foundry.

Smartphone application processors in 7nm and below accounted for 47% of total shipments.

Strategy Analytics noted that HiSilicon has been hit by trade sanctions, with shipments of its smartphone app processors down 96 percent in Q3 2021. At the same time, Samsung LSI's application processor shipments decreased by 12%. New to the market, Google has a 0.1% market share with the Pixel Tensor application processor.
