On December 23, 1404 (November 21, 1404 in the second year of Yongle of the Ming Dynasty), Ming Chengzu Zhu Di set up a guard in Zhigu, and ordered The Ministry of Works Shangshu Huangfu, Pingjiang Bo Chen Xuan, and Du to command Lingyun and Tongzhi Huang Gang to start construction of the city, giving the name "Tianjin", which means "the place where Tianzi's car crosses the river".
In the second year of Ming Jianwen (1400), Zhu Di, the King of Yan, crossed the Grand Canal here and went south to compete for the throne. After Zhu Di became emperor, in order to commemorate the "Battle of Jingnan", the "Tianjin Wei" was specially established.
