Suntory Whisky launches Yamazaki 55 to global travel retail

CHICAGO, Oct. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Suntory today launched an extremely limited edition of Highly Limited Edition Yamazaki 55 Whisky for a suggested retail price of $60,000 to Global Travel Retail.

Yamazaki 55 is now available to Global Travel Retail

Bottled in 2020, the Yamazaki 55 is the highest vintage in Suntory history and is designed to pay homage to the founding family of Japanese whisky while commemorating the Japanese "Showa" era of the 1960s.

The Yamazaki 55 will be sold in a number of global travel retail stores and can be found in London, Paris, Hainan, Hong Kong, Taipei, Amsterdam, Seoul, Delhi, Istanbul, Dubai and Singapore.

For each of the 100 bottles of whiskey on sale this year, Penn Suntory will donate $5,000, for a total of $500,000, to The White Oak Initiative, a group dedicated to the long-term sustainability of White Oak forests in the United States.

Yamazaki 55 is made from a precious single malt whisky blend that includes original sake distilled in 1960 under the supervision of Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii and aged in water gullies, as well as original sake distilled in 1964 under the direction of Suntory's second-generation chief distiller Keizo George and then aged in white oak barrels.

Suntory's fifth-generation Chief Bartender Shinji Fukuyo worked closely with Third Generation Master Blender Shingo Torii to deploy their signature hybrid art to properly reveal the exceptional depth, complexity and wisdom of Yamazaki 55 Suntory's third-generation Chief Brewer Shingo Torii and fifth-generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyu, using their master blending skills to present Yamazaki's 55 years of depth, complexity and wisdom.

The resulting wine is dark amber in colour with intense notes of sandalwood and rich ripe fruit, sweet and slightly bitter, with water lintel notes complementing the mouth.

Each crystal bottle is carefully engraved with the words "Yamazaki", the vintage marker is covered with handmade Echizen was waka paper using gold powder and lacquer to protect the neck part, and each bottle of sake is equipped with a Japanese water lintel wooden box customized with lacquerware.
