China and Japan fiercely fight solid-state batteries! Once Toyota is mass-produced, the good days of China's new energy will come to an end?

As we all know, the "Diss electric car" is a traditional art of Toyota, and its executives have repeatedly bombarded electric vehicles in public.

The drama is that although Toyota says no, the body is very honest: overseas media reported that Toyota plans to mass-produce solid-state batteries between 2027 and 2028, and the range of these batteries is expected to reach 1,200 kilometers, and it can be charged to 80% in 10 minutes.

In addition, Toyota plans to launch a high-specification solid-state battery with a range of 1,500 kilometers.

What is called "double standard", Toyota is in place.

Experts in the Japanese auto industry believe that Toyota's move is aimed at Chinese car companies, and it intends to achieve "corner overtaking" of Chinese car companies through the mass production of solid-state batteries.

According to Japanese media statistics, Toyota has more than 1,331 patents in the field of solid-state batteries, ranking first in the world.

On our side, although the number of patents is not as good as that of Japan, there is good news:

(1) Authoritative institutions predict that the scale of the domestic solid-state battery market is expected to reach 30 billion yuan in 2025;

(2) In the past five years, the number of global patent applications for China's solid-state batteries has increased by 20.8% per year, and the growth rate is unparalleled.

In terms of enterprises, CATL, Qingtao Energy, Ganfeng Lithium, Huineng Technology, etc. have made remarkable achievements, and even more, they have completed the "leapfrogging", taking CATL as an example, its condensed matter battery officially released at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2023 can achieve an energy density of 500Wh/kg, which can meet the needs of civil electric manned aircraft.

However, everyone is more familiar with the solid-state battery of Zhiji L6, which has a range of 1,000 kilometers.

It is worth mentioning that GAC Aion's luxury brand Haobo officially announced some time ago that "the all-solid-state battery will be mass-produced in 2026", the battery adopts high-capacity solid-state cathode technology and third-generation sponge silicon anode technology, with a solid-state electrolyte of 100%, an energy density of more than 400Wh/kg, and a range of more than 1000 kilometers.

If nothing else, the all-solid-state battery will first be installed on the Haobo model.

Judging from the current book progress, neither Japan nor China can complete the mass production of solid-state batteries in the short term, which means that there is still no accurate answer to who will have the last laugh.

In other words, even if CATL has become a veritable "King of Ning", even if the new domestic car-making forces and domestic battery suppliers have gained a firm foothold in the industry, we still have a sense of crisis in the face of the new outlet of solid-state batteries.

Thanks to the advantages of high safety, high stability and high energy density, the Matthew effect of solid-state batteries has become more and more obvious in recent years, and it is also recognized as the next breakthrough point in the electric vehicle market.

Due to the fact that the internal solid-state electrolyte cannot be lightweighted temporarily, solid-state batteries can usually only choose rare metals as raw materials, and the price of rare metals is often higher.

Once solid-state batteries are mass-produced, the speed of global electrification transformation will accelerate, and the twilight of traditional fuel vehicles will also accelerate. But then again, traditional fuel vehicles have always been the basic plate of Japanese cars, and the reason why Japanese cars have been reluctant to start the electrification transformation is also here, so can we understand that the launch of solid-state batteries will be a "if you don't succeed" action for Japanese cars?
