Scan the code to order food to pay attention to the public number? Rectification is coming

According to the "Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission" WeChat public account news, Tencent recently pushed a notice to developers on the issue of self-inspection of "scanning codes and ordering food mandatory attention to public accounts". The platform will begin to verify such issues on January 17, 2022, and the offending official account will be restricted from the ability to open the public account with a QR code.

The Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission pointed out that at present, the small two-dimensional code reconstructs the relationship between merchants and consumers in catering consumption. Paper menus have become "scarce goods", and the resulting problems such as the decline in the quality of catering services, discrimination by consumer groups, leakage of personal information, and mandatory attention to public accounts have followed.

According to reports, in April this year, the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission has repeatedly called for "restaurants should not collect or collect as little information as possible from consumers."

A few days ago, the China Consumer Association said that "scanning codes to order food" should not become a "single choice topic", and vigilance against "consumption convenience" becoming "consumption troubles".

The China Consumer Association pointed out that only providing "scanning codes and ordering food" is suspected of excessive collection of consumers' personal information, infringing on consumers' right to fair trade, not providing on-site menus is detrimental to consumers' right to know, and the application of new technologies should not become a consumption obstacle for special consumer groups.

It is understood that the choice that can be both scanned code ordering and manual ordering has now become a disguised "forced" scan code order. What is even more disturbing is that behind the scanning code ordering is also hidden the trap of forced attention and information harvesting.

In this regard, the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Commission believes that scanning code ordering should be based on the premise of not obtaining or obtaining consumer information as little as possible, and restaurants should also provide manual ordering options.

Recently, Tencent pushed a notice to developers on the problem of self-examination of "scanning codes and ordering food mandatory attention to public accounts".
