According to Shenzhen Business Daily, Huawei's "genius teenager" plan was first known to the outside world, stemming from a speech by Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei in 2019 at the company's management team EMT. He said that Huawei recruited 20 to 30 "talented teenagers" from all over the world that year, and recruited 200 to 300 more the following year. According to media reports, Huawei's group of talented teenagers have annual salaries at the level of one million yuan, with a maximum of more than 2 million yuan. It is understood that many of Huawei's "genius teenagers" are focused on the field of artificial intelligence and algorithms.

Huawei revealed at the 2021 annual report press conference that last year and the year before, Huawei recruited about 26,000 fresh graduates, of which more than 300 were "talented teenagers" defined by Huawei. Last year, the official WeChat of Huazhong University of Science and Technology revealed that two students of the school were selected for Huawei's "Genius Youth" program that year, and 6 people in the school have been selected for the program within 3 years. This year, the first "genius teenager" to be made public to the outside world is Lin Tian, a graduate of the School of Information Science and Engineering of Fudan University. Huawei's most well-known "genius teenager" is the well-known UP master of B station, Zhihuijun, formerly known as Peng Zhihui, graduated from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2018 and is currently an AI architect at Huawei. The robotic arm he invented that can sew needles for grapes, the self-driving bicycle that can go straight, turn, and dodge obstacles, and the desktop robot that can operate the computer with the arm are all screen brushing works on social networking sites.

Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's rotating chairman and CFO, once said that Huawei's greatest wealth is talent storage, thought storage, theoretical storage, engineering storage and method storage, as well as efficient and orderly storage of internal process management, which is the real value of Huawei behind the financial report. According to Huawei's annual report, huawei will have about 107,000 people engaged in research and development in 2021, accounting for about 54.8% of the company's total number. In 2022, Huawei plans to recruit more than 10,000 fresh graduates.
