In 1860, in order to force China to open the border and further expand western influence on China, at the end of the Opium War, Britain and France once again sent troops into Beijing. They thought That China would yield in this way, but it turned out that they miscalculated, and Chinese and succumbed to it, but instead launched a retaliatory action. At the same time, the French army had reached the Yuanmingyuan, followed by the British army, two robbers plundered in the Yuanmingyuan, and all the officers and soldiers fell into madness.
In this way, the cultural relics in Chinese history were taken away by robbers, and those that could not be taken away were burned on the spot, and then they left a fire, which burned for several days, and a garden of ten thousand gardens was destroyed. In 1900, they once again waged war against poor and weak China, and this time, the British set their sights on another royal garden, the Summer Palace. After 1860, the emperors of the Qing Dynasty thought about restoring the Yuanmingyuan, but this was a big cost, and the area of the Yuanmingyuan that was burned down was too large, so the restoration plan could not be implemented. In 1900, during the Eight-Power Alliance's invasion of China, the leaders of the British army sneaked into the Summer Palace and stole a lot of Chinese cultural relics, including the "Female History Proverbs" now in the British Museum.
"Female Historiography"
"Female History Zhentu" is a silk painting of Gu Kaizhi of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the original work has been lost in history, and the surviving facsimile of the Tang Dynasty was originally 12 paragraphs and 9 paragraphs survived. Although it depicts the moral feelings of upper-class women, it is not limited to this place, but also describes women's daily lives and so on. This ancient painting successfully created the image of court women of different identities, truly and vividly reproducing the delicacy and conservatism of aristocratic women. This is a model painting that integrates indoctrination and aesthetics, and Chinese painting has since begun to shift from indoctrination to aesthetics, which is of great significance in the history of painting in China.
However, after the British snatched this ancient Chinese painting, due to the lack of understanding of Chinese culture in terms of collection, they foolishly divided the painting into three parts. These three parts were not only framed, and some inscriptions and seals of great research value were thus destroyed by the ignorant British. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, China's experts and scholars have been working hard to recover the lost cultural relics of the Yuanmingyuan, and in the British Museum alone, more than this "Female History Proverbs" is a valuable and genuine work. However, we have repeatedly demanded the return of the lost cultural relics of the Old Summer Palace, but the British pretended to be deaf and dumb and refused to return them. Obviously, he did not know how to protect these ancient paintings, but he was unwilling to return them, so that the paintings were destroyed in vain, and many Chinese sons and daughters were heartbroken by this.
