The prototype of Apple's new display? LG's new 4K OLED display released: expensive

December 17 news, LG recently released the 2022 4K UltraFine OLED Pro monitor, including 32-inch and 27-inch versions, priced at 24999 yuan and 19999 yuan respectively.

Taking the 27-inch version as an example, its color gamut coverage has reached a fairly top level, supporting 99% DCI-P3 and 99% Adobe RGB color gamut coverage, and also supporting hardware calibration, which is quite suitable for professional workers in the picture, image, and printing industries.

At present, many monitors are 8-bit jitter 10-bit, this display is native support for 10-bit color, can display more than 1 billion colors, convenient for professional workers to deal with richer colors. The OLED screen has a contrast ratio of up to 1 million:1, which can display deep blacks and show more detail when watching movies and TV dramas in dark scenes. The response time of the OLED screen is also fast, and the grayscale response time of the monitor is 1ms, which is suitable for playing some e-sports games.

The relatively large disadvantage is that the brightness is a little low, only 250 nits, OLED screen compared to LCD screen, brightness is not easy to do so high. Apple is working with Samsung to use OLED screens on future iPad Pros, and Apple intends to stack double OLED display layers to achieve double brightness and four times life. In the product line of displays, the demand for high-end OLED displays is not so large, and it is unlikely to use similar solutions for the time being.

Recently, there are rumors that Apple is developing display products, and the screen is also provided by LG, so is it possible that Apple's new display is based on the display as a prototype? Blogger @dylandkt said that the two monitors LG developed for Apple will have the same specifications as the 24-inch iMac and the upcoming 27-inch iMac.

Now the specs of the 24-inch iMac screen are as follows:

4.5K Retina display, 4480×2520 resolution;

500 nits brightness.

The starting price of the 24-inch iMac is 9999 yuan, so the price of the new display must be lower than this specification, and to achieve the above parameters, it can only be a high-quality LCD screen. As for the 27-inch display, rumors say it will come with a mini-LED display and a 120Hz ProMotion screen. In this way, Apple's new display will also be an LCD screen.

At present, the price of OLED large screen is too expensive, and the pricing power is mainly in the hands of LG, even Samsung has just launched the OLED large screen market. Perhaps after Samsung, BOE, Huaxing, etc. increasingly have large-screen OLED product lines, the price of OLED displays can really come down.
