Erdet Wenxiu was born on December 20, 1909, the son of a former head of the Ministry of internal affairs. At the age of 8, Wenxiu was sent by his family to a private school and changed his name to Fu Yufang. In 1921, the Qing Dynasty Emperor Puyi was elected a concubine, and Wenxiu, who was not yet 13 years old, was selected and was soon admitted to the Forbidden City. At this time, although Puyi had abdicated for many years, due to the preferential treatment of the Beiyang government, he still lived in the Forbidden City and retained the imperial title, as well as a large number of palace women and eunuchs. In addition, the Beiyang government also allocated Puyi 4 million silver dollars every year for his daily expenses.
After Wen Xiu entered the palace, she was named a lady concubine by Puyi, and because Puyi was hollowed out by the palace maid in her early years, she did not share a room with Wen Xiu on the night of the big wedding, but lived alone in the Yangxin Hall. After that, Wenxiu began her own life as an imperial concubine, and after freshening up every morning, she first went to Puyi's bedchamber to greet an, and then to the palace of Empress Wanrong and the four concubines to ask for peace in order, and then returned to the Changchun Palace where she lived to live her life. Later, Puyi hired an English and literature teacher for Wenxiu, and her life began to be enriched.
When the Second Zhifeng War broke out in 1924, Feng Yuxiang led his troops into Beijing, after which he sent people to forcibly drive Puyi out of the Forbidden City. Wenxiu followed Puyi all the way and finally came to Tianjin. Later, at the instigation of Zheng Xiaoxu, Puyi decided to use the power of the Japanese to restore and regain the throne. After Wenxiu learned of this, he urged Puyi to say: "The Japanese are extremely cruel and have no credibility to speak of. During the Russo-Japanese War, countless Chinese were slaughtered, and they absolutely could not listen to the ghost words of the Zheng clan and lure the wolves into the house! ”
But Puyi simply could not listen to Wenxiu's advice, and reprimanded her for being a woman. After that, Puyi began to deliberately snub Wenxiu, he was with Wanrong every day, and when he went to the street, he only took Wanrong alone, and even when he ate daily meals, he did not eat at the same table as Wenxiu. Some people saw that Wenxiu had fallen out of favor and began to make things difficult for her, and even deliberately embarrassed her. Wen Xiu couldn't bear it, and finally decided to divorce Puyi and asked three lawyers to help him fight the lawsuit. This incident immediately became big news, and it was spread wildly.
After divorcing Puyi, Wenxiu received compensation of 50,000 silver dollars. She wanted to go back to her mother's house to live, but by this time her mother had passed away, and the old house had been sold by distant relatives in the clan. In desperation, Wenxiu had to buy a bungalow in Beiping Liuhai Hutong to settle down. After buying a house and paying a lawyer's fee, Wenxiu had no money. However, some people think that Wenxiu has followed Puyi for many years, and there must be valuable literary and painting in his hands, so he has successively come to the door to ask for a bargain in the name of marriage proposal, but Wenxiu rejected it.
Soon after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Peiping fell, and Wenxiu was even more restless. The policemen, security chiefs, or dog-legged men who relied on the power of the Japanese came to the door one after another to extort money from Wen Xiu. Under the oppression of these people, Wenxiu soon became a complete poor man, and finally even sold his house, once living by pasting cartons and selling cigarettes, and experienced the hardships of life. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Wenxiu worked as a worker in a printing factory and changed his name to Fu Yufang. In the summer of 1947, through the mediation of people, Wenxiu married Liu Zhendong, a major in the Nationalist Army.
After marriage, Liu Zhendong has always felt that his wife is not like a simple printing factory female worker, she is not only proficient in piano, chess, calligraphy and painting, but also speaks English, and her temperament is not comparable to ordinary people. Despite these doubts, out of respect for his wife, Liu Zhendong did not ask about this, and Wenxiu was very grateful. In September 1953, Wenxiu became seriously ill, and before she died, she confessed her life and experience to her husband, who had always loved her deeply, until this time, Liu Zhendong did not know that the wife who had slept with her for 6 years was the last imperial concubine Wenxiu.
