Washing hands, disinfecting, changing into white overalls, Fu Wenqi, a technical engineer at the Texas Kaisheng Haofeng Smart Agricultural Industrial Park, pushed open the door of the greenhouse, and in the humid air that came to her, was her familiar tomato smell. Tomatoes, as the main raw material for scrambled eggs with tomatoes, which are essential recipes for beginners, are grown in both the north and the south and can be described as household names.

In the appendix to the fruit spectrum of Wang Hao's "Guangqun Fang Genealogy" in the Qing Dynasty, there is a record of "tomatoes": "A June persimmon with a stem like artemisia. It is four or five feet tall, the leaves are like wormwood, the flowers are like durians, and a branch is five or three or four solid. "Unlike ordinary tomatoes that grow to 1.56 meters, the tomatoes here are really tall, up to more than 20 meters long, which can be called infinite growth tomatoes. They are not only tall, the yield is also large, compared to ordinary tomato plants may only hang fruit 5-6 panicles, while the infinite growth type tomato can hang to more than 20 panicles, the yield is 5-6 times that of ordinary greenhouses, and 40-50 kg per square meter can be reached.

Tomato Doctor: Establish a "hukou" for tomatoes and monitor growth data in real time

In the sweet and sour tomato flavor, Fu Wenqi began a day's work while touring the garden. Fu Wenqi is mainly responsible for the environmental control and water and fertilizer management of this greenhouse.

"This is the largest single glass greenhouse in Asia, with a total of 25 hectares, equivalent to the size of 600 standard basketball courts, all grown with tomatoes." Fu Wenqi said that the greenhouse uses ultra-white calendered scattered glass to increase greenhouse light, which has a very high transmittance and is known as the "crystal prince" of the glass family.

Sunlight shines through the glass of the greenhouse, evenly shining on the tomato plant, and the fleshy bumblebee vibrates its wings and flies between the plants, pollinating in a pure natural way to ensure that the tomato seeds are full.

"In order to ensure the healthy growth of tomato plants, each greenhouse is equipped with a plant protection engineer." Fu Wenqi said that from the moment the seed germinated, a file like a household registration book was established for the tomato plant, and its weekly growth data was recorded, including leaf length, leaf number, new stem thickness and other data, and the growth environment and irrigation of the tomato were regulated.

Such data archiving, but also to achieve the traceability of agricultural products, you can clearly know the source of each fruit, and even back to the parent and mother of this tomato is what plant.

Private Customization: Grow the sweet and sour taste you want

"It's not what the tomato looks like, we eat it, it's what kind of tomato we want to eat, we grow it into what kind of tomato." Fu Wenqi said that through the monitoring of data, it is possible to adjust the ratio of resources such as water and fertilizer in real time and customize the taste of tomatoes. If you like to eat sour tomatoes, you will grow sour tomatoes, and if you like to eat sweet, you will grow sweet tomatoes.

At the same time, in the greenhouse, multiple sensors are placed to sense the health status of each plant, and the data is transmitted back to the computer, allowing technical engineers to monitor in real time to ensure that the tomato plants are in a healthy state. Fu Wenqi said with a smile, "In the process of monitoring and touring the park, problems are found, and they will be analyzed to prevent diseases and insect pests before they occur." Like a doctor who sees people, we are the doctors of tomatoes. ”

When the tomatoes are ripe this season, you can see the workers walking through the tomato plants, beating leaves, thinning fruits, picking, and performing their duties. Bunches of tomatoes are picked, placed in boxes, and then transported to the sorting and packing workshop in a harvest truck.

On the fully automatic sorting line, the tomatoes are screened layer by layer, and after the fruits with bruises, dark spots, cracked fruits and scars are removed, the remaining qualified tomatoes will be served on the consumer's table. In addition to offline sales, the selected tomatoes will be packaged, posted on the courier list, and shipped to various places through e-commerce platforms such as Pinduoduo.

Fu Wenqi's Kaisheng Haofeng opened a fresh flagship store on the Pinduoduo platform, and since joining the Pinduoduo subsidy in June this year, the store sales of the official flagship store of Greenwalker Fresh have reached 100,000+.

"Many consumers in the country know for the first time 'tomatoes with household registration', unlike the traditional e-commerce of the search type, Pinduoduo encourages sharing in a way that can stimulate a lot of such early adopter potential demand," said the person in charge of the Pinduoduo agricultural project, "The needs of more than 800 million consumers are very diverse, tens of billions of subsidies, tens of thousands of people, seconds and other different entrances, collecting different requirements of consumers, accurately docking supply and consumption at both ends of the cloud, which is conducive to consumers to buy suitable products at affordable prices. It can also help the whole industry chain of the supply side to deepen product quality, help good products form a good brand, and sell at a good price. ”

Digital Agriculture: Helping Farmers Say Goodbye to "Eating from the Sky"

"It's an exploration to change the farming model of farmers who rely on the sky to eat." Fu Wenqi said that compared with ordinary tomatoes planted in the ground, the tomatoes in the wisdom greenhouse are planted in a special coconut bran. As long as the temperature and conditions are suitable, tomatoes planted from September can grow until July, with multiple fruit hanging in between, which can be planted throughout the year.

This kind of exploration coincides with the second "Duoduo Agricultural Research Science and Technology Competition" jointly launched by Pinduoduo, China Agricultural University and Zhejiang University. It is reported that the competition aims to invite the global young agricultural research team to join, using cutting-edge nutrition science, precision agriculture and other technologies to challenge the cultivation of high-quality, high-yield tomatoes within 6 months. The competition advocates "using scientific and technological innovation to improve land output rate and labor productivity, and provide a new path for farmers to increase their income and become rich", which has become the direction of the efforts of the younger generation of agricultural researchers.

Fu Wenqi's colleague Sun Beibei is also one of them. Sun Beibei is the project manager of Kaisheng Haofeng Anhui Tongcheng Base, and has been engaged in intelligent greenhouse operation since graduating from China Agricultural University with a master's degree. After seeing the recruitment information of the "Second Duoduo Agricultural Research Competition", Sun Beibei found that the content of the competition was very suitable for his own work, and there were experts in the competition to give guidance, so he and his colleague Li Chao and two other members formed a pioneering team to participate in the competition, and successfully entered the rematch.

"Throughout the debriefing process, the professors and experts gave us a lot of guidance and advice, although we did not go to the end, but in the whole process of exchange and sharing, we learned a lot of things." After Receiving the evaluation feedback from his own team given by the organizing committee of the competition, Sun Beibei and the members of the group did a lot of review and reflection, and gained a lot. "If there are such competitions and seminars in the future, we will still participate, and I hope to be more prepared next time."

It is understood that the "Duoduo Agricultural Research and Technology Competition" is one of the many measures taken by Pinduoduo to help China's agricultural and rural modernization and rural revitalization. In August this year, Pinduoduo also invested 10 billion yuan to set up a "10 billion agricultural research project". The special project aims to face the major needs of agriculture and rural areas, not for the purpose of commercial value and profit, and is committed to promoting the progress of agricultural science and technology, the universal benefit of science and technology, and the goal of further motivation and sense of gain for agricultural science and technology workers and workers. Up to now, Pinduoduo has continuously invested the profits of Q2 and Q3 in the special project, hoping to inspire more young people who devote themselves to science and technology agriculture.

There are many agricultural researchers like Fu Wenqi and Sun Beibei, just like the flower language of tomatoes: dare to try, although ordinary and weak, but full of courage. They are full of dreams and perseverance, dare to try, and firmly believe that a small force can also emit a lot of light and heat.
