Two deposed princes of the Tang Dynasty: one was rich and good, who had 19 sons in his lifetime, and the other was given death by his father

The surname Wu is the top ten surnames in the Chinese, and the ancestor of the Wu surname is Wu Taibo. Wu Taibo was originally the eldest son of King Tai of Zhou, named Ji Taibai. Tai Bai felt that his younger brother Ji Li was virtuous and took the initiative to cede the inheritance rights of the Zhou tribe to Ji Li. Tai Bai let Xian give way three times in a row, and Ji Li only accepted the brother's humility. After Taibai Rangxian came to the land of Jingwu and founded the State of Wu, he became Wu Taibo. The sage of Kong praised: "Taibo can be described as the most virtuous, and the three are called the people who have nothing to gain." ”

The praise of Kong Shengren has made "the sage of Taibo" a synonym for taking the initiative to let the sage. There are many princes who took the initiative to let Xian in history, and the story of the author today is about the Tang Dynasty taking the initiative to let Xian, giving up the position of prince to the two Tang princes of the younger brother.

When Li Zhi was still the King of Jin, under the arrangement of his aunt and grandmother Princess An Dachang, he married the daughter of the Taiyuan Wang clan as the Princess of Jin. The daughters of the Wang clan did not come out, but the palace people gave birth to Li Zhi's eldest son Li Zhong. After Li Zhi ascended the throne and became emperor, Princess Wang of Jin was crowned empress. Empress Wang had nothing to do but adopt Li Zhong. After Li Zhong was adopted by Empress Wang, he became the eldest son of a concubine.

In accordance with the principle of "establishing a concubine to be long", Li Zhi made Li Zhong, the eldest son of a concubine, the crown prince. Li Zhong's position as crown prince was entirely obtained by relying on the promotion of his mother, Empress Wang. After Empress Wang was deposed, Li Zhong's position was in jeopardy. Li Zhong saw empress Wu's son Li Hong grow up day by day and knew that he could no longer stay in the position of crown prince. Li Zhong went to the table and took the initiative to apply for resignation as crown prince.

Li Zhi refused Li Zhong's resignation three times in a row in accordance with the procedure of "three concessions, edicts not allowed, and then accepted". Li Zhong went to the table for the fourth time and strongly demanded to resign from the position of crown prince. Li Zhi pushed the boat along the water and approved Li Zhong's resignation. Li Zhongsan let the world win a piece of praise from the courtiers. According to the New Book of Tang, Xu Jingzong praised Li Zhongyue: "Can you be a taibo, isn't it also good?" ”

The point is that after Tai Bo let Xian, he could leave Zhou and go to a distant barbaric land to create the State of Wu. After Li Zhong let Xian, he could only be within the control of the Tang Dynasty, and he couldn't go anywhere. Li Zhongsan gave up the world and was demoted to the position of King of Liang. Li Zhong worried all day that he would kill him and suffered from mental illness. Li Zhong was crazy, but Li Zhi was still not at ease and still killed him.

Since ancient times, there have been very few deposed princes who can get a good death. During the Tang Dynasty, there was a deposed prince, but the ending was very satisfactory, and this person was Li Chengqi. When Emperor Ruizong of Tang was still the King of Xiang, he married His wife Princess Liu. Liu Shi was Li Dan's wife and gave birth to li chengqi, the eldest son. Li Dan gave his son such a name in the hope that his son could become a heavy weapon of the country.

Li Xian was pulled down from the emperor's throne by Wu Zetian, and Li Dan was driven to the shelves and became the emperor of the Tang Dynasty. Although Li Dan was a puppet emperor, he had all the configurations he should have. Li Dan's wife, Liu Shi, naturally became empress. Li Dan's eldest son, Li Chengqi, naturally became the crown prince. Li Dan's concubine Dou Shi (窦氏) was crowned as a concubine. Li Longji, a concubine born to Concubine De, was crowned king of Chu.

Wu Zetian ascended the throne as emperor, and Li Dan was demoted to imperial heir. Li Dan was no longer an emperor, and his dependents would naturally be demoted. Li Chengqi was demoted to the title of King of Shouchun. Li Longji was also demoted and demoted to the position of King of Linzi. Empress Liu and Concubine Dou were killed by their mother-in-law Wu Zetian. Li Chengqi and Li Longji experienced the pain of losing their mother on the same day, and they were put under house arrest together, which made the brothers have a very good relationship.

The New Book of Tang records that Li Chengqi was "particularly fearful". Li Chengqi has always been cautious and cautious in doing things. When Li Xian ascended the throne and became emperor, he wanted to crown Li Chengqi as the King of Cai. In the etiquette system of the Tang Dynasty, the one-character king was the prince, and the two-character king was the county king. The uncle wanted to crown Li Chengqi as a prince, and Li Chengqi came to a "three-let prince", but he refused to accept it.

After Li Xian's death, Empress Wei took control of the imperial government. Li Longji united with Princess Taiping and launched the Tang Long coup d'état to help Li Dan ascend to the emperor's throne. After Li Dan became emperor, Princess Taiping demanded that Li Chengqi be crowned crown prince on the grounds that "Li Chengqi was the eldest". Li Chengqi knew that he had no strength, and when he became the crown prince, he could only be at the mercy of Princess Taiping. Li Chengqi insisted on not being the crown prince, and he resigned three times and elected his younger brother Li Longji as the crown prince.

Under the humility of Li Chengqi, Li Longji was made crown prince by his father Li Dan. Li Chengqi's "Three Let the World" also get the reputation of "Taibo Zhixian". In my opinion, Li Chengqi also wanted to be the prince, but his strength did not allow it, so he retreated to the second place and earned a good name of "pushing the world really and having a trip to the high world".

After Li Longji ascended the throne and became emperor, Li Chengqi, the former deposed crown prince, did four things to protect himself. The first thing was to change the name and change Li Chengqi to Li Xian. In doing so, Li Xian told Li Longji: "Brother, I don't want to become a heavy weapon of the country, I just want to be a prince of leisure." ”

The second thing Li Xian did was to "make friends with people without trying to interfere in politics" for decades. Li Xian did not interfere in the affairs of the dynasty and did not associate with scholars, making "Emperor Yi trustworthy".

The third thing Li Xian did was to continuously ask Li Longji for money and rewards. The New Book of Tang records that Li Xian asked Li Longji for money and rewards, and gave Li Longji a list of "hundreds of papers." The list of rewards was written for hundreds of pages, and Tang Xuanzong always rewarded them according to the order. The luxury of Li Xian's material supply can be seen from this.

The fourth thing Li Xian did was to ask Tang Xuanzong for a beautiful woman. Every time Tang Xuanzong chose a beautiful woman to enter the palace, Li Xian had to share some beautiful women. Tang Xuanzong was also happy to "share with his brothers", and would give beautiful women to Li Xian every time.

The beautiful women in Li Xian's palace were like clouds, and as a result, a large number of children were born. There are no historical records of how many daughters Li Xian has. The New Book of Tang clearly records that Li Xian had 19 sons. Li Shimin was emperor for twenty-three years, with three thousand harem beauties and only 14 sons. Li Xian had 19 sons, which was enough to prove that the life of the deposed prince was very elegant

The deposed crown prince Li Xian died a good death at the age of 63. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang was grateful for his brother Rang Xian's kindness and posthumously made Li Xian emperor of the Tang Dynasty. Li Xian was buried according to the emperor's etiquette system, which can be described as mournful and solemn. Li Xian did not become emperor when he was alive, but he enjoyed all the glory and wealth. Li Xian died and was posthumously crowned emperor, giving him the title of emperor. Li Xian won the title of emperor and enjoyed the emperor's wealth, but he did not have to work as hard as the emperor. Li Xian's life was worth it!
