It's late! Experts predict that foldable iPhones will be born three years later, and Samsung has accounted for 93% of the folding phone market

The foldable iPhone has a new message.

On December 14, screen analyst Ross Young predicted that Apple would not release a foldable iPhone until 2023 at the earliest, which is a conservative estimate. In fact, it is more likely to see a foldable iPhone in 2024.

In recent years, the foldable iPhone has been rumored to be continuous.

Back in 2018, Apple applied for a number of patents related to folding screen iPhones, all of which described how they built iPhones that could really fold. At the same time, Apple has invested heavily in microLED display technology. This technology can be used for flexible displays, which is the core technology of folding screen mobile phones.

In September 2020, it was reported that Samsung had provided Apple with a foldable display sample for testing, and there were also rumors that Apple was working with LG Display.

In January this year, foreign media reported that the foldable iPhone sample that Apple sent to Foxconn for testing last year had passed the first test, that is, the assembly quality control inspection, after more than a month of testing.

In May, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said apple was working on a foldable iPhone with an 8-inch flexible OLED display in 2023, and there has been no news since then.

Although Apple took the lead in applying for a patent for foldable screen technology, research has been stuck on screen technology and has not created a complete mobile phone. The foldable screen mobile phone market has long been occupied by mobile phone manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi. This year's total global shipments of folding screen mobile phones reached 2.6 million units in Q3, an increase of 215% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 480%. Among them, Samsung accounts for 93% of foldable smartphone shipments, and has an absolute leadership position in the global folding screen.

In this case, even if the foldable iPhone is available, Apple will not be able to lead the foldable smartphone market.
