Lucid CEO says he was once the model S chief engineer Musk denies

[Zhiche Pie News] No one is perfect. Musk has had great success at work and is adored by countless fans around the world. But in the eyes of his wife and subordinates, he may not be a good husband and a good boss.

Peter Rawlinson, CEO and chief technology officer of Lucid Group, refuted Musk's claim in a recent interview with HBO Axios that he was not the chief engineer of Tesla's flagship electric car, the Model S.

Rawlinson led the Lucid Group in producing and delivering its first electric vehicle, the Lucid Air Dream Edition, on October 31. During Lucid's tenure, Rawlinson has earned the respect of many electric car enthusiasts, but Musk doesn't seem to be one of them. Rawlinson has said several times in interviews as Lucid CEO that much of his electric vehicle expertise comes from his experience as principal engineer on Tesla's Model S project in the early 2010s. However, Musk has disputed this claim several times, most recently in May 2021.

"Rawlinson was never the chief engineer. He arrived after the Model S prototype was completed and left before things got tough. He is only responsible for bodywork, not powertrains, batteries, software, production or design. Musk wrote on Twitter.

Rawlinson said in an interview that he described his position as "Model S chief engineer" on his business card when he took up tesla. His LinkedIn page shows that his position at Tesla is "Vice President and Chief Engineer of Model S." In addition, he said tesla's filings with the SEC during his tenure also listed him as the model's chief engineer. In fact, in a document filed with the SEC on December 16, 2010, Tesla did list Rawlinson as a "vice president and chief engineer," though that didn't indicate that Rawlinson was the vice president and chief engineer of the Model S, which was the only car Tesla was developing at the time. According to the same report, Tesla plans to complete the Model S's alpha build, exterior body design and engineering, safety and structural design, supplier procurement, and site preparation in 2010.

Musk once said, "Rawlinson didn't design the Model S. The prototype was done before he joined, and it wasn't cool for him to get us into trouble when things got tough. He did make some contributions to body/chassis engineering, but not to powertrains, batteries, electronics or software. Rawlinson has also spoken about the reasons he left Tesla in 2012, including his elderly mother's need for his help, "and my boss didn't treat me very well." ”
