Blue skies, palms, heat waves,
A medical building with curved curves, glass curtain walls and white concrete.
The contrast and integration between these two scenes establish a delicate relationship.

Mount Sinai Medical Center is located near Miami Beach
Located in Miami Beach, Florida, USA, as a tourist attraction, it is often reminiscent of the low Art Deco architecture along the Atlantic coast, and has Morris. Lapides (American architect, passionate about modern Baroque style) personal style luxury building.
But starting in 2019, a new landmark has been added here. Mount Sinai Medical Center, the largest nonprofit private hospital in the region, has expanded a 340,000-square-foot (≈ 31,587㎡) 7-story building to provide emergency, surgical and inpatient services.

How do the towering medical buildings along the coast fit into the "Miami Modernism" of the surrounding buildings while retaining the qualities of medical architecture?
The project plot is narrow and trapezoidal, so a curved architectural structure design was chosen to form a three-dimensional façade with curved flow of planes, sections and elevations. This structural design allows the ward units to enjoy the outdoors and reduces the length of the walkway.
On the other hand, the façade material of white concrete + glass visually reduces the building volume.

For the design of the hospital expansion building, the owner's appeal is clear: this medical building cannot look like a fortress. For the 75,000 patients it receives each year, whether local residents, vacationers or international visitors, it must be accessible and welcoming to every visitor.
So, in the hall on the first floor, we can take a nap in the lounge area and watch the palm trees on the front of the building echo with the coastline.

Of course, the huge installation in the atrium also demonstrates the artistic power of comfort and healing.

The art installation also reveals a secret:
In addition to the palm trees, the building's interior environment and the association of Miami Beach are cleverly reflected in the turquoise tones of the furniture.

In addition, the building materials also reflect the relationship between the hospital environment and the beach, including the terrazzo floor of 12 large operating rooms, mimicking the visual effect of the fine sand of the beach.

In key areas such as treatment rooms and intensive care units, digitally coded signage creates efficiency, with blue-green curtains and blue wall panels reflecting the calm and concentration of the medical setting, and wood finishes are used to increase warmth.

And in the 154 open rooms (114 general surgery beds, 40 intensive care beds), each room offers stunning views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.
