To qualify for the PNC Championship, players must have won a Grand Slam or Players Tournament, and their partner must not hold an PGA TOUR card.

It was Thomas & Sons who won the PNC Championship last year, when the lineup had amassed a total of 67 Grand Slam titles, and this year it attracted Grand Slam champions who had won between 1959 and 2021. With only 20 teams, the tournament's lineup has shown unprecedented interest in competing for their places, looking forward to being part of the star-studded squad.

The PNC Championship was first held in 1995, when ten Grand Slam champions competed with their sons. Since then, the PNC Championship has continued to progress and evolve. Currently, 20 Grand Slam champions compete with their relatives for a total prize pool of $1.085 million. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was won by the Willie Parker Cup.

PNC Financial Services Group has been the title sponsor of the event since 2012. Formerly known as the PNC Father-Son Challenge, the tournament was renamed the PNC Championship in 2020 to reflect the high level of competition and line-up, while highlighting that it is an inclusive family event that showcases the special bond created by the love of golf.
