After competing in F2 and F3, Frank Williams founded the F1 Williams team in 1977. After failing to achieve the desired results with Canadian oil giant Walter Wolff, Frank decided to set up his own team.

Working closely with Technical Director Patrick Hyde, Frank is convinced that the team can grow into a champion team within a few years.

At Silverstone in 1979, Clay Regazzoni won the first Grand Prix for The Williams team. In 1980, Alain Jones won the team's first world title. In the years that followed, Koker Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansel, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve won six other world championships for the team in 1982, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1997.

In 1994, Senna, who was driving a Williams race car, crashed and died at imola. Three-time world champions have just joined the team, and since that accident, Williams racing has been stamped with the Senna logo.
