Striving to improve their military skills such as shooting bombs, on October 12, 1952, in order to seize the enemy's position, our army lurked to a distance of about 60 meters from the enemy's position, the enemy threw incendiary bombs into the grass, ignited the weeds next to Qiu Shaoyun, and the rolls of the fire tongue whirred, in order to avoid the exposure of comrades-in-arms, Comrade Qiu Shaoyun, with extraordinary and strong perseverance, let the fire ignite his clothes and spread throughout his body, he stopped his comrades who wanted to save him, and let the fire burn his whole body. His hands were tightly inserted into the dirt, and his body was clinging to the ground until the last moment of his life, a heroic sacrifice!
On November 6, 1952, the Chinese Volunteer Army decided to posthumously commemorate Qiu Shaoyun's special merits, and in the same year, he was awarded the title of Hero of the First Class, and on August 30, 1953, he was posthumously recognized as a member of the Communist Party of China and awarded him the title of "Hero of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" by the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the National Flag Medal of the First Class of the Gold Star Medal!
