Qiu Chuji, zi tongmi, number Changchunzi, Shandong Qixia people. Quanzhen Sect is a branch of Taoism, founded by The Jin Ren Wang Zhe. At the age of 19, Qiu Chuji entered the mountain to learn the Tao, and at the age of 20, he met Wang Zhe by chance, worshiped under the door, and entered the customs with his master.
After Wang Zhe ascended to the throne, Qiu Zhiji pioneered the Hidden Guanzhong (present-day Guanzhong Plain, Shaanxi) and insisted on practicing, and gradually became famous because of the high and profound Dao.
In the 28th year of Jin Sejong's reign (1188 AD), he was summoned by the Jin lord Yan Yong (Jin Shizong) to the Zhongdu Yanjing Province (present-day Beijing) to teach Jin Guogui the art of longevity, which was quite preferential.
In the early days of the Mongol golden harvest, Qiu Chuji left Yanjing and returned to his hometown of Qixia, Shandong, in the hidden mountains, and the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty successively sent emissaries to invite them out of the mountains, but they did not respond.
In the winter of 1219, Genghis Khan, who was leading the Mongol army on a western expedition, heard that Qiu was in charge of the daimyō, and sent a special envoy to return to Shandong, and asked the master to meet with him in the west.
In the spring of 1221, Changchun Zhenrenqiu, who had repeatedly refused invitations from the Song and Jin, gladly led his disciples to the west at the request of Genghis Khan, and after more than a year of arduous trekking, turning over the desert, wading through quicksand, crossing the grasslands and the Gobi, he arrived at Balu Bay (north of present-day Kabul, Afghanistan) in April 1222.
Qiu Chuji had already learned about what the Mongol army was doing in the western regions and Central Asia when he was practicing in Qixia Mountain, Shandong, and on his way west, he passed through Samarkand, Yulong Jiechi, and other places in the river, and witnessed the tragic situation after the battle in hezhong, and although he could not bear it, he was still proud to be able to see Genghis Khan, which also reflected his profound Daoist prediction of the future situation in the Central Plains Han Dynasty, and he wanted to rely on the Mongol forces to promote the development and growth of the Quanzhen Sect. In the eyes of Genghis Khan, the whole town was nothing more than a religious leader who could wish him a happy birthday, a white-bearded old man with some Taoist skills, not much smarter than the Mongolian shaman.
Only some Sinicized Khitan and Han officials can see that the complementarity of politics and religion has an irreplaceable significance and role in the Mongol struggle for Han China; but this is not entirely the case, for example, the Khitan Yelü Chucai quite despises the set of mysterious things that Qiu Chuji engaged in.
According to history, Qiu Chuji lived in Central Asia for nearly a year, and Genghis Khan, who was slaughtered daily, was still busy suppressing the rebellion of the people in the conquered areas, such as the Subutai Tubali Black City, the Toray Tumaru... Occasionally, when I have time, I ask qiu. The main thing is to consult the art of immortality.
Some good deeds have already boasted in front of Genghis Khan that Qiu Chuji is more than 300 years old, which aroused the curiosity of this tyrant of the world, so he asked and verified in person, in fact, Qiu Chuji was 75 years old at that time, but he did not dare to say anything, so he had to vaguely say that he had lived in seclusion in the mountains for a long time and had long been unaware of the age of the world. Genghis Khan originally took conquest as his ability, and had no interest in what kind of "stop killing order" of killing less and killing cautiously, what he really cared about was how to maintain health, how to live a long life, and it was best to seek the art of immortality, but the old Daoqiu who had long been famous in the world obviously could not do it, and he could not satisfy him.
The Khitan minister Yelü Chucai was proficient in Confucianism, and his eyes were like torches, and he was very dismissive of Qiu Zhiji. He once said that Qiu Zhiji "did all the things that were ordinary in language and spiritual qi." In the Central Plains Han Dynasty, whenever there was a war, one of the great merits of the Taoists was to set up altars, sacrifices, and super-degree undead; where would Genghis Khan, who spent his life on horseback, was on the battlefield, and killed endlessly every day, and was called "the conqueror of the world". Some historical records say that Qiu Chuji took the opportunity to advise Genghis Khan that "those who want to spend a day will not care about killing people", and after hearing this, Genghis Khan "deeply agreed with his words... and to admonish the sons." This kind of statement is obviously polished by Han Confucianism and is not credible, and it is not even mentioned in the "Journey to the West of The True People of Changchun" (composed by the accompanying disciples) that records the deeds of Qiu Chuji's westward journey.
In March 1223, Qiu Chuji bid farewell to Genghis Khan and left Central Asia and returned to the west, after which Genghis Khan and his successors did not know how many innocents they had killed indiscriminately. However, for the Quanzhen Sect, Qiu Zhiji's tireless efforts and journeys westwards have yielded results, and Genghis Khan has specially granted them the privilege of being exempted from military service and paying taxes, so that the Quanzhen Dao can flourish and flourish, and its influence is increasing day by day. Later, during the Wokoutai and Kublai Khan's eastern expeditions to the Central Plains (Southern Song Dynasty), the Quanzhen Sect relied on its special status to protect many Han people in the Mongol and Song war areas, so that many people survived death, and many good lands were preserved, which is also a great merit.
