When Teng Xiyuan was very young, his parents died, and the family had no source of livelihood, and his life was very poor. At that time, the country was suffering from war, and the people were not living well, on the one hand, they had no means of subsistence, and on the other hand, they had to hide around for war.
Teng Xiyuan's two older brothers joined the ranks of the Red Army early, and only Teng Xiyuan and two younger brothers were left in the family, and Teng Xiyuan, as the elder brother of the two younger brothers, naturally fell on his own.
On July 7, 1937, the Japanese launched the Lugou Bridge Incident, and the all-out war of aggression against China began. The young Teng Xiyuan saw that his hometown had fallen into the hands of the enemy and the people were displaced, and his heart was very sad and angry.
Seeing the Japanese devils sweeping the village with guns, brutalizing the common people, and then burning their bodies along with the house, teng Xiyuan could not stop the anger in his heart, and he swore in his heart that he would join the army to defeat the Japanese devils and defend our country like his brothers.
In 1938, when Teng Xiyuan was just 13 years old, he applied to sign up for the troops near his hometown, that is, the Laidong County Brigade. Generally speaking, if he wanted to join the army, he had to be at least 16 years old at the time, but Teng Xiyuan entered the army at the age of 13, which shows that his determination is much stronger than that of ordinary people.
When he first entered the team, everyone thought that he was too young to participate in the battle, and there was no intention of taking him in. But although he is younger, his ambition is higher than that of the sky. The young Teng Xiyuan said: "Now, my two brothers signed up to join the army when they were not very old, so when I enter the army, I must also charge like them, knock down all the Japanese devils, and defend our country!" ”
At that time, Liu Zizheng, the political commissar of the county brigade, thought that Teng Xiyuan's intention to join the army was very firm, so he decided to let him join the team. Before joining the army, Teng Xiyuan lived a life of private flight for a long time, malnutrition made him look very emaciated, and he looked very dark, so everyone jokingly called him "Tenghezi".
Although he looked black and thin and young, Teng Xiyuan was very clever. He often disguised himself, and sometimes he would make his body dirty and look like a little beggar. He knew that only then would no one suspect him, so that he could better serve the troops.
One day in 1940, the Japanese were frantically sweeping through the villages. The traitorous forces were very rampant, and under their information, the Japanese devils came to the eighth route army's garrison to sweep up, and one of the teams was Teng Xiyuan's unit.
At this time, Teng Xiyuan was ordered to carry out a mission with other comrades-in-arms. Soon, the traitor led the Japanese devils into the village. As soon as they entered the village, the two comrades-in-arms were taken away by them, leaving Teng Xiyuan alone. Teng Xiyuan, who was alone, was in a crisis of being surrounded.
At this dangerous time, he did not feel the slightest fear, and after calming down, he used his familiarity with the terrain and the village to quickly climb out of the wall of the courtyard before the enemy had entered the door.
During the escape, he encountered two comrades who had not been caught, and the three of them hid in a secret place. At this time, they encountered an enemy who came out to investigate. The three men thought about it for a moment and decided to come by surprise and knock them down here. Teng Xiyuan thought in his heart, "Why should our common people be slaughtered by the Japanese devils?" ”
After waiting for the enemy to fall, Teng Xiyuan decided to take action. He gave his comrades a look, then quickly rolled down the wall, jumped to the neck of the enemy, and instantly threw him to the ground. The other two comrades quickly followed and pressed his arms and legs from behind, making him unable to move. Then Teng Xiyuan took out a dagger from his waist and stabbed it at the neck of the enemy fiercely, and blood spurted out at once.
This small battle made Teng Xiyuan somewhat famous, and the soldiers gradually changed their views on him, believing that he was more capable. From this incident, the warriors saw that Teng Xiyuan was slowly growing, and they were happy for him from the bottom of their hearts. However, unfortunately, because of the incident in Teng Xiyuan, the stronghold of their large army was destroyed by the enemy.
Therefore, they could only continue to look for the team, and finally they found the fourth detachment of the Eighth Route Army, the commander's name was Liao Rongbiao.

But he also did not show the slightest fear, although the bullet was gone, but he still had the bayonet. So he engaged in close combat with the enemy, and in the process of entanglement with the enemy, he was stabbed several times by the enemy's bayonet, and his arm was pierced. In this melee fight, Teng Xiyuan survived, and during the entire battle, Teng Xiyuan, who was only 15 years old, killed 6 Japanese ghosts at once. After the battle, Teng Xiyuan suddenly became famous, and at the commendation meeting, he received the first first-class meritorious service medal in his life.
Commander Liao Rongbiao personally awarded him a medal and gave him a box gun. At the commendation meeting, Commander Liao Rongbiao praised him and said, "You little TengHezi, I didn't expect to fight a devil!" After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1945, Teng Xiyuan and the soldiers were very happy, originally thinking that after driving away the Japanese devils, the motherland would be at peace, but they did not expect that domestic contradictions had appeared again.
In order to promote the liberation of the whole country, the soldiers put on their uniforms and rushed to the battlefield to fight with the Kuomintang troops. At this time, Teng Xiyuan was only in his twenties, but according to his qualifications, he was an old man in the army. His combat experience was very rich, and under the leadership of Su Yu, he became the commander of the Seventh Column Artillery Company.
One day, he and his comrades-in-arms were checking the sentry on the mountain as usual, and suddenly he found that there was a Kuomintang army of about 200 people coming up the hill, and Teng Xiyuan calculated that the enemy army and the main force of our army were still half an hour away.
