The self-righteous Hong Xiuquan was the fuse for Li Xiucheng and Chen Yucheng to go against each other

author:The descendants of the four fields on history

The two Zongyang meetings, the great destruction of the "Jiangbei Camp", the total annihilation of the elite Li Xubin department of the Xiang Army, and the continuation of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom for several more years, all these brilliant achievements were the result of the unity and cooperation of the officers and men of the Taiping Army, especially the full cooperation between Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng.

The "Change of Tianjing" and the departure of Shi Dakai's troops seriously stimulated the sensitive nerves of the Heavenly King Hong Xiuquan. In view of the unreliability of the king with different surnames, Hong Xiuquan once swore in front of the Manchu Dynasty Wenwu that he would never be crowned king. Like Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng, the ministers of the revival of the Heavenly Kingdom, Hong Xiuquan only let them be the former military commander and the rear army chief army, and they were in charge of the leadership and the deputy commander to emphasize their power, but they also used the favored minister Meng De'en as the main leader to nominally lead them.

Li Xiucheng's contribution to the destruction of the "Jiangbei Camp" when he completely annihilated Li Xubin was not inferior to Chen Yucheng's, and now his younger compatriots were on top of him, and his heart was somewhat unpleasant, not to mention that above them there was a mediocre courtier who would only collect beautiful women for Hong Xiuquan.

In April 1859, Hong Xiuquan's brother Hong Renjie came from Hong Kong to Tianjing. Hong Xiuquan was overjoyed to see it, because Hong Renjie was one of the few people in the Hong family who had seen the world and had talent. Only a month after Hong Renjie came to Tianjing, Hong Xiuquan broke his oath of "never being crowned king", made him the king of Gan by crossing the rank of Gan Tianfu (Nghe An Fu Yan Yu Marquis), and ordered him to replace the prime minister of Mengde'en.

Although Hong Renjiu was talented, he did not make a great contribution in the Heavenly Kingdom, which made Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng, who had the merits of a hundred battles, feel very uneven in their hearts. In order to appease the hearts of the people, in a few days Hong Xiuquan had to seal Chen Yu, who had the greatest merit, and become the king of England.

When this news reached Li Xiucheng's army, Li Xiucheng's subordinates complained about it one after another, and although Li Xiucheng did not say a word, his heart was full of resentment. At this sensitive time, Li Zhaoshou, who had now been demoted under Li Xiucheng's former subordinates, extended an olive technique to Li Xiucheng to persuade him to surrender. When Hong Xiuquan heard this news, he gave Li Xiucheng the four characters of "Wangu Zhongyi" in his handwriting overnight, and at the same time he was the King of Zhong.

After sealing Li Xiucheng, Hong Xiuquan also made Yang Fuqing the auxiliary king, Meng De'en the king of Praise, and Li Shixian the king of the attendants, and at this point, the main generals of the five armies around the right were all crowned kings except wei Jun, who was the brother of Wei Changhui, the northern king.

His purpose was to make Chen and Li disjointed, but not to make Wei Jun the king cause him to surrender in anger under the pressure of Yang Puqing and Chen Yucheng, and thus become a sworn enemy of the Taiping Army, which was really Hong Xiuquan's miscalculation.

After Chen Yucheng became king, his royal palace was located in Anqing, so his attention was mainly focused on Anhui, and after Li Xiucheng conquered Suzhou, his Zhongwang palace was located in Suzhou, so he regarded Zhejiang as his sphere of influence.

Since Chen and Li were crowned kings, the relationship between the two changed from intimacy to estrangement and finally became strangers, and the person who did it was Hong Xiuquan. Since then, the two of them have never had any real military cooperation except for a joint operation when the Taiping Army broke through the "Jiangnan Camp" for the second time. Li Xiucheng sat by and watched Anqing fall into the hands of the Qing army, treated Chen Yucheng coldly as he was trapped in Luzhou, and finally watched him walk on the road of death in Shouzhou.

In the "Battle of Anqing", Chen Yucheng's troops devoted all their strength to breaking the siege, because Zeng Guofan's Xiang army regarded Anqing as a must, and concentrated all its elite forces to take Anqing, and there were rebel generals of the Taiping Army on the periphery, Wei Jun, who cooperated with the rebel generals of the Taiping Army, and although Chen Yucheng joined forces with Hong Rengui and Lin Shaozhang of Zhang Wang to jointly fight against the Xiang army, it was unfortunate that Hong and Lin were not generals, and as a result, they were defeated by the Xiang army one by one. Chen Yucheng, the king of England who had always been brave and invincible, was even more defeated this time, he defeated Erlanghe, then Jixian Guan, and three defeats under the city of Anqing, and his elite small right team of more than 4,000 elite small right troops commanded by Liu Xiaolin, the lord of Jingdong, was completely destroyed. It was in this way that the Xiang army still captured Anqing.

During the anthonymity of the Anqing Defense War for about a year, Li Xiucheng, the King of Zhong, always had a cold attitude toward this major event related to the rise and fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and only symbolically sent Huang Wenjin, the general of Dingnan, to deal with the war in Anqing. Huang Wenjin was also a tiger general of the Taiping Army, known as the "Yellow Tiger", but the historical records do not record whether he tried his best when he sent troops to Anqing. In particular, what made Chen Yucheng cold was that when he and Li Xiucheng carried out the plan of The GanWang Hong Renjie to seize Wuchang, Chen Yucheng, who had already besieged several cities and forced Wuchang, did not wait for Li Xiucheng's army even though he wanted to see through it. At this time, Anqing was in a hurry again, and Chen Yucheng had to leave his men and horses to wait for Li Xiucheng, and he himself took someone to rescue Anqing.

When Li Xiucheng led a large group of people ma Shanshan to approach the Qimen Zeng Guofan camp late, because most of the people in Zeng Guofan were on the Anqing front, there were no people in his Qimen camp at all. Faced with the approaching of Li Xiucheng's 100,000 troops, Zeng Guofan had to write a suicide note again and sit in the Chinese army tent and wait for the knife. But a miracle that Zeng Guofan did not dare to dream of appeared, and Li Xiucheng took a detour back to Suzhou at Zeng Guofan's Qimen camp.

As soon as Li Xiucheng left, Chen Yucheng, who was difficult to support, did not break through the strict defense line of the Xiang army in the last bo, and he could only watch the fall of Anqing.

After the fall of Anqing, Hong Xiuquan did not pursue Li Xiucheng's responsibility for saving Anqing, but instead blamed Hong Renjie and Chen Yucheng for the failure of Anqing, and at the same time stripped them of their responsibilities.

Chen Yucheng was discouraged after the Gejue, and he did not want to return to Tianjing to see the Heavenly King, let alone cross the river to Li Xiucheng, but was deceived and captured by Miao Peilin, a traitor in Shouzhou, and died on June 4, 1862 at the Yanjin West Campus in Henan.

After the "Change of Tianjing", Hong Xiuquan did not dare to trust anyone with a different surname, it was this kind of mind that was strange, when he was crowned king, because Chen Yucheng and Li Xiucheng were too closely related, so he deliberately sealed Chen Yu with the same merit as king when he was crowned king, and then late sealed Li Xiu as king, in order to separate the relationship between the two. His purpose was indeed achieved, but his Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was also gradually destroyed.
