The Song Dynasty had enemies. Therefore, both the Northern Song Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty attached great importance to commerce and foreign trade, thus creating an economic prosperity unique in ancient Chinese history. A precedent in the recent history of mankind.
Many Western historians regard the Song Dynasty as the world's first modern state. Instead Chinese don't realize it.
