"The election of the Vice President of the Federation will help the Red Cross Society of China to support the construction of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in developing countries through the International Humanitarian Platform, care for vulnerable groups, make greater contributions to promoting the development of global humanitarian causes and promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and work with people around the world to create a better future for mankind," Chen Zhu said.

"Political Affairs News" (WeChat id: zsenews) notes that the President and Vice-President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are elected by the Federation's plenary assembly every 4 years. Previously, Chinese officials have also served in the agency.

Four years ago, on November 13, 2013, Zhao Baige, then executive vice president of the Red Cross Society of China, was also elected vice president of the international organization.

Chen Zhu was born in August 1953 and is now 64 years old. Two years ago, when Chen Zhu was awarded an honorary doctorate in science from Columbia University, "Political Affairs" (WeChat id: xjbzse) published an article interpreting his career history: a self-taught barefoot doctor, a well-known expert in the field of blood disease treatment and research, the youngest academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the first "non-partisan minister" after the reform and opening up.

In 1970, at the age of 16, Chen Zhu came to Xinfeng County, Jiangxi Province, to join the team and became a local barefoot doctor. At that time, he often lit a kerosene lamp to read medical books sent by his parents until late at night, translating hundreds of thousands of words of medical literature. After resuming the college entrance examination, he was admitted to the master's degree in hematology of the first department of the Medical Department of Shanghai Second Medical College with the second overall score and the first major in hematology. His wife, Chen Saijuan, once commented, "His (Chen Zhu's) passion for learning is beyond ordinary people. ”

On November 3, 1995, Chen Zhu was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the age of 42, the youngest academician in the Chinese medical community at that time. Five years later, due to his outstanding scientific performance, he was appointed vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

In June 2007, Chen Zhu was appointed former minister of health at the age of 54, making him the first non-partisan person to serve as a constituent part of the State Council after the reform and opening up, and the second non-CCP person to serve as a government minister after Wan Gang.

In March 2013, Chen Zhu was elected vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, becoming a vice-state leader, and two years later as president of the Red Cross Society of China.

"Political Affairs News" (WeChat id: zsenews) noted that Chen Zhu has won a number of important awards at home and abroad, such as the He Liang He Li Science and Technology Award, the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Natural Science Award, the Yangtze River Scholar Achievement Award, the French National Anti-Cancer Alliance Lovaz Award, the San Jergi Cancer Research Innovation Achievement Award in the United States, etc., and has also won the third world Academy of Sciences and the foreign academicians of the American Academy of Sciences, the French Academy of Sciences, and the Royal Society.

In addition to being vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the Red Cross Society of China, Chen Zhu, who is over the age of flower, is currently serving as the chairman of the Central Committee of the Peasants' and Workers' Party and the president of the European and American Returned Scholars Association. As a result, his schedule is busy, but medical and Red Cross work has always been an important part of his work.

Just before going to Turkey to attend the 21st Plenary Session of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Chen Zhu also came to Beijing Anzhen Hospital on the morning of October 29 to visit the second batch of Mongolian congenital heart disease children who came to Beijing for treatment in the "Angel Journey - Humanitarian Assistance Program for Children with Serious Diseases along the Belt and Road".
