Hangzhou legislation protects and manages West Lake Longjing tea

Hangzhou, 29 Oct (Xinhua) -- The 38th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Hangzhou Municipal People's Congress deliberated and adopted the "Regulations on the Protection and Management of Longjing Tea in West Lake, Hangzhou" on the 29th, which will be reported to the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress for approval and promulgated for implementation, so as to protect and improve the quality of West Lake Longjing tea, strengthen the protection of west Lake Longjing tea brand, and promote the sustained and healthy development of the West Lake Longjing tea industry.

It is understood that West Lake Longjing tea refers to the Longjing group species in the West Lake Longjing tea production area and the fresh leaves of the longjing 43, Longjing longye and other tea varieties selected from the Longjing group species and approved by the adaptation of west Lake Longjing tea as raw materials, using the traditional stall green pot, green pot, resurgence, glow pot and other processes processed locally, with the quality characteristics of "green color, fragrant, sweet taste, shape and beauty", in line with the West Lake Longjing tea standard flat green tea.

According to the Regulations, producers and operators shall not use names, place names or logos that are likely to cause misunderstanding and confusion and may mislead consumers in the tea packaging and publicity of non-West Lake Longjing tea, so that consumers may mislead the tea as West Lake Longjing tea.

The special logo of West Lake Longjing implements unified identification, classification code, quantity control, etc., to achieve traceable management of the source of fresh leaves, tea varieties and fresh leaves picking and processing in West Lake Longjing Tea.

The regulations point out that no unit or individual may forge or manufacture the special logo of West Lake Longjing without authorization, or sell the special logo of West Lake Longjing that is forged or manufactured without authorization, or provide facilitation or other assistance for forging or manufacturing the special logo of West Lake Longjing without authorization. Violations of the provisions shall be ordered by the agricultural, rural and market supervision and management departments to stop the illegal conduct, confiscate the forged or unauthorized manufacture of special signs and tools for the West Lake Longjing, and where the illegal gains are more than 50,000 yuan, they may be fined not more than five times the illegal gains, and if there are no illegal gains or the illegal gains are less than 50,000 yuan, they may be fined not more than 200,000 yuan.
