Her mother, Han Xiuyan, was in the Baoding area of Hebei Province, and she thought that her family was a famous family. In the 1930s, her uncle, my second grandfather, was a doctor who opened a clinic in the area, and the old treasurer was actually my mother's grandmother, and she made the big decisions of the family. Although the war was in chaos, the clinic was very prosperous, and two apprentices were hired to help, and the children called them "cousins". At the beginning, there was no distinction between the Kuomintang Army and the Eighth Route Army, as long as there was a disease or an injury, Chinese medicine and Western medicine were all shown to them.
Later, under the influence of her "cousin," the grandmother felt that the Kuomintang had always beaten the Eighth Route Army and bullied the common people, and she heard that the Eighth Route Army lacked medical treatment and medicine, so she decided to defect to the Eighth Route Army and go to northern Shaanxi. Later, I learned that one of my "cousins" was a Communist.
In October 1937, the 14-year-old mother, following her grandmother, uncle, aunt and father, mother, and siblings (plus two "cousins"), began a long journey straight to the Taihang Mountains. At that time, 11 donkeys were used for medical equipment, medicines and supplies alone. It is said that the road is very hard, the grandmother originally had superior living conditions at home, but on the road, she ate small rice every day, which was very unaccustomed. "Cousin" comforted her and said that it would be good to talk about Yan'an. After many days of walking, they finally arrived at the revolutionary base area, and a large group settled in the health center of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army (later changed to a hospital). The arrival of my mother's family, which at that time was undoubtedly a blessing in disguise for the Eighth Route Army.
It is said that when they arrived at the base area, the whole family was warmly welcomed, but they were still served with a pot of small rice and a pot of carrots. The grandmother could not imagine that the local life was so hard, and actually cried. When the chief of the unit learned of this, he thought that the grandmother's credit was great, so he came to comfort her and gave her a small stove after that. Later, the grandmother died, and the health department of the 129th Division also handled the funeral for her.
When my mother arrived in the army, she put on her military uniform and worked as a nurse in the hospital. At the age of 17, she became a well-known beauty in the hospital. I was in my father's old army and came into contact with many uncles and aunts who had followed my father to the north and south, but the stories I heard about my parents' marriage were different. Especially the aunts said that they had seen it with their own eyes, and the story was even more legendary, so that even I couldn't figure out which was the "original" later!
In fact, some stories are not necessarily true, but as long as someone loves to listen, it is natural to pass them on.
There is a saying that is widely circulated. In mid-March 1938, the 772nd Regiment of the 386th Brigade led by the commander's father set up an ambush at Shentou Ridge and fought a fierce battle with the Japanese from dawn to sunset on the West Mountain. Dad was injured in multiple places, unconscious, and admitted to the military hospital where mom was. Chen Xilian, his father's old comrade-in-arms at that time, was born in the same year as him, and joined the army in the same year, so good that he was eager to wear a pair of pants, and he was also admitted to the hospital because of his injury. They are also known as "the two flowers of the two wilds". One day Chen Xilian quietly told his father that there was a beautiful nurse in the hospital named Han Xiuyan. In fact, Dad had already seen her and had a good feeling for each other. It was during this period that Mom and Dad met and fell in love and together composed a chapter of romantic love in the battlefield.

The commander of our army was a very senior cadre at that time, and later, he often told me about his time when he first joined the army. He said that when Dad married Mom, Mom was the captain of their propaganda team. As a result, the stories he told became another version that I knew.
Uncle Ren was only 11 years old when he was a soldier, and because he was too young, he was assigned to the propaganda team in the army, and his mother happened to be the leader of the propaganda team. At that time, my mother led them all day to march with the troops to fight and do propaganda work. After arriving at the station, my mother slept on the big kang of my hometown, and these little soldiers slept on the ground with a row of straw on it. At that time, they all admired their mother and always praised her for being very beautiful!
Uncle Tang Mingchun, who served as commander of the Lu'an Military Subdistrict of the Anhui Provincial Military Region after liberation, and his wife and aunt lian told me that they had worked in the military hospital and propaganda team at that time, and that they had seen the marriage process between their father and mother with their own eyes.
One day in April 1938, Dad rode a big red horse to the hospital (propaganda team) and took a fancy to the beautiful mother. Mom also fell in love with Dad at first sight, and both sides had the intention of seeing each other and hating each other, when Dad took Mom away with his big red horse.
The aunts of the hospital (propaganda team) did not understand what was going on because of their young age, and they all talked about it there, and later learned that this was marriage. They sighed and longed for themselves to be like their mothers, how happy and happy it would be to have a handsome and powerful man marry them!
At that time, Mom's whole family was in the army, and Mom was the most beloved eldest daughter in their family. I heard that she found her sweetheart, and Grandma and Grandpa are happy! A sumptuous meal was prepared at home to welcome their future son-in-law. On that day, the family was like the New Year, the adults were happy, and the children were running around.

Although the commander's father had experienced countless wars, he was after all a poor boy from a peasant background, and the first time he went to his father-in-law's mother-in-law's house, he was still a little restrained, because this meal was going to decide the major events of their lives. It is said that the people of the grandmother's family once measured the birthday of their father and mother, and the fortune teller said that their lives were incompatible, as if they belonged to the "chicken and rabbit cage", and marriage could not be eternal. It's just that the two of them have loved each other to the point of life and death, and dad is heroic, has made many achievements in battle, and the future is unlimited, which has to impress the grandmother's family, so they no longer care about those arguments.
Hebei people's favorite food is fried sauce noodles, they regard dad as the most honored guest, of course, to invite dad to eat fried sauce noodles! Dad was a southerner, and he had never eaten fried sauce noodles when he was so old. He picked up the chopsticks, put a chopstick noodle in his mouth, and then used the chopsticks to put some fried sauce to eat.
Many years later, my aunt still described the scene to me very vividly. She said the whole family laughed, and she coaxed her to say, "Oh – my brother-in-law can't eat fried sauce noodles!" Mom quickly taught Dad to put the fried sauce in the noodles and mix it up. The son-in-law was on the job, and the words were left behind, and the whole family remembered the story of dad, the "southern barbarian" who could not eat fried sauce noodles.
Dad was 6 years older than Mom, and he was married to Mom when he was 23 years old. The two of them were a handsome and mighty general, and the other was a beautiful and dignified nurse (propagandist), which could be described as a talented woman with a good fortune, and whoever saw it was envious and praised.

Later, when I was talking to my mother, I asked her, and she also said that my father took her away with a big red horse. Mom said that marriage at that time was really so simple, where is the first to talk about love and then get married! To go to Dad's level of leading cadres is to ensure the priority of the chief's life and all aspects, especially marriage issues, and the targets are basically selected in the hospitals and propaganda teams of the army, and most of them are helped by the organization to solve them.
In fact, in the army during the war years, many people's marriages were a bit of a "lalang match". A simple symbolic wedding is a little more solemn, and most of the futons of both parties are put together as husband and wife. If the woman does not agree, the leader of the woman's unit will do political and ideological work until she agrees.
One of the things that impressed me very much was that in the early 1980s, my mother took me to the home of one of her old comrades-in-arms (women) and saw her home with my own eyes. The aunt was already in her sixties at the time, still as beautiful as ever: tall, long and wide forehead, dignified and delicate, with a noble and elegant temperament, you can imagine what a big beauty it was back then! During the war years, a chief looked up to her, but her aunt did not agree because of his appearance. At that time, she was working in the division hospital, and Uncle Tang Mingchun, who had been the political commissar of the division hospital, told me that the organization had sent him to do the aunt's persuasion work for a long time, which was done as a political task at that time. Until the end, after the leader repeatedly did the work, the aunt had to nod her head and marry the chief. Later, in her own joke words: "I was a flower on cow dung." ”
It's rare to fall in love at first sight like Mom and Dad. After they got married, they got to know each other better. Dad fought one beautiful battle after another, all witnessed by Mom. There are even battles that are fought specifically for mom!
It was the most famous battle in the Village of Hanluo in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1943, which eliminated the Japanese "Field Observation Group". Behind the glorious victory in this battle, there is still a secret that no one knows.
It was just in time for Dad on his way to Yan'an when he suddenly heard that the logistics unit, including the hospital where Mom was located, was being tracked and surrounded by the enemy. That's it! When Dad heard about it, he was so anxious that he immediately led his troops back to the rescue, and happened to encounter the "field observation group" of Japanese devils.
At that time, the communication equipment was backward, and it was too late to ask the superiors for instructions, and it was bound to delay the fighter. According to the timing and location, Dad thinks that this is a piece of fat meat sent to the mouth, where is the reason not to eat? He decisively deployed this battle, just like the divine soldier descending from heaven, the little devil was caught off guard, and he did not know how he died, and achieved unexpected results.
Mom followed Dad, saw and heard so many wonderful battles, and later when she heard that Dad was going to fight, she said, "As long as it is a battle fought by Wang Jinshan, it will definitely be won!" As a result, the "cowhide" is really not blown, and Dad is really a "general who always wins."
Mom loves Daddy even more. In fact, her original name was Han Xiulan, because her father's name had a "mountain" word, she thought hard to change her name to the current "Xiuyan". It was really difficult for her, and she actually changed two "mountains" as soon as she changed it! Who would have thought that a few years later, it would really become two big mountains on Dad's head!
Dad loved Mom and was famous at the time. Although in the war years, dad would be reunited with mom whenever he had the chance, and dad would keep the best food for mom to eat. According to Uncle Han Rongqing, who was then the chief of the logistics department management section and later the deputy commander of the Twelfth Army (who was also my brother's old father-in-law), the conditions were harsh during the war years, but he was still very concerned about the life of the chief, killing an average of one chicken a week. Two chicken legs, one for Commander Wang and one for Commissar Du. Because my mother often went to see my father, and I couldn't help but eat the chicken leg that was given to Commissar Du, Uncle Du could only "look at the chicken and sigh." Mom was very "domineering" at that time, because she was pregnant and hungry, who dared to care about her?
Dad's love for Mom is undisguised, even exaggerated. During the Liberation War, one battle after another, Dad often took his wife on expeditions (Mom was also a military doctor), and followed him wherever he went, almost to the point of inseparability. In fact, my mother also suffered a lot for this. Pregnant and with a big belly, she had to run with the troops, but she never complained. One of them was because she climbed the mountain during pregnancy and rolled down the mountain without paying attention, and the child in her belly was unfortunately miscarried.

Mom had been injured in the arm by an enemy soldier on a march (and later rated as a third-class disabled soldier of the First Class), and dad was so distressed when he knew that he blamed himself for not protecting his mother and vowed never to let his mother be hurt in any way. Dad understood Mom's hardships and came up with a brilliant way to design a "luxury" vehicle for Mom — a flatbed truck with rubber rudder pulled by a mule. In order to shelter from the wind and rain, he also put up a cotton curtain around the board car, at first glance, it looks like the big flower car that rural people take when they marry their relatives, and my mother can sit on it! For a period of time, my mother was riding this "cottage version" of the big flower car, following my father to the southern expedition to the northern war.
Gradually, people all got to know this "mule pulling car", and knew that where there was a "mule pulling car", there was Wang Jinshan.
Later, when the headquarters held a meeting, someone made an opinion that "the mule pulling the cart" was too conspicuous, and it was easy to expose the target, in case the enemy found it, it would be fine!
Dad didn't pay any attention to them, still going his own way, and Mom was even more alone.
This incident was reflected in the ears of Commander Liu Bocheng, who was said to have been noncommittal and smiled.
Who knew that one day Liu Bocheng happened to meet this "mule pulling car" on the road. And he asked, "Who's in it?" ”
Mom heard someone stop the car, lifted the curtain of the "big flower car", saw that it was Commander Liu, the mother hurriedly jumped out of the car, smiled at Liu Bochengguan, performed a military salute respectfully, and gently shouted: "Commander Liu is good!" ”
Someone told Liu Bocheng that this was Wang Jinshan's wife, and Commander Liu waved his hand and said, "Let's go, let's go!" ”
Commander Liu was gone. What he didn't expect was that because of his "pretending not to see", he actually left a smooth sentence that resounded throughout the Three Corps, that is, "Liu Bocheng has one eye, but he can't see Han Xiuyan!" ”
Dad's love for Mom is as wonderful as the battle Dad fought. It is really like a song that sings: "Love loves it vigorously, love loves it clearly"!
