Hefei, October 28 (Xinhua) -- On October 27, the 130th anniversary of the birth of "General of Peace" Zhang Zhizhong was held in Hefei, Anhui Province. It is understood that Zhang Zhizhong, born in 1890 in Chao County (now Chaohu City) in Anhui Province, was originally named Ben Yao, the character Wenbai, the backbone general of the Huangpu department, and the second-class general of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army. In 1932, he was the commander of the Fifth Army during the "1.28" Battle of Songhu, resisting the Japanese invasion of China in Shanghai. "The Songhu War of Resistance was fought under the leadership of his father and my father. Especially before going to Shanghai, he wrote a suicide note to my mother, which meant that he would rather die on the battlefield of anti-imperialist aggression than be a slave to the country. Zhang Zhizhong's daughter and Chairman of the Zhang Zhi Chinese Education Foundation, Said, "So I think my father is a patriotic general, the other is that he has gone to Yan'an three times to negotiate peace, and he believes that whether the two parties can peacefully solve some problems, that is, let everyone concentrate their efforts on building the motherland and making the people's lives better, so he is also a general who loves the people." ”

According to Zhang Sujiu, when Grandma sent her father Zhang Zhizhong to serve the motherland, she let her father eat a bite of ginger and drink a mouthful of vinegar, and used this simple way to warn her father that when she went out, she should understand the bitterness of life and the suffering of the people. Since then, "biting ginger and drinking vinegar" has become my father's life motto and has had a profound impact on future generations.

"My father has always remembered 'bite the ginger and drink the vinegar', and as the motto of his life, it later became our family style, that is, when doing things for the people, we must be able to withstand any difficulties and overcome these difficulties." This was the most important education my father gave us in life. Zhang Sujiu said.

As a "general of peace," Zhang Zhizhong not only persisted in the War of Resistance, the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, and the reunification of the motherland, but also successively founded the Huanglu Primary School and the Huanglu Normal School in Huanglu Town, Chaohu City. This educational concept deeply influenced Zhang Sujiu, and also laid the foundation for her to contribute to cultural and educational exchanges and exchanges between China and the United States in the future.

"In the years when I was the chief of education at the Whampoa Military Academy, my father would send him back to his hometown for education as long as he had money, and opened the Huanglu Normal School. The school has also trained many entrepreneurs and scholars. Zhang Sujiu said, "I was most influenced by my father is education, living in the United States for many years, I have been committed to promoting Sino-US folk culture and education exchanges and exchanges, especially the exchange of young people, I think the relationship between China and the United States is related to the next generation, which is a good basis for exchanges."
