"At that time, I only knew that he was a border guard in Shannan, Tibet, and I didn't know how much suffering there would be." Zhang Xinghui said that he had never imagined that sending his son to join the army would be a permanent trick.
The environment in the border areas is harsh, and the living conditions of the border guards are extremely difficult. However, Gu Nu adapted quickly, and he performed well in military competitions, not only winning the third class merit, but also honorably joining the Chinese Communist Party.

The location of the Ancient Nu Border Patrol is located in Abila, shannan, Tibet. In the Tibetan Lhopa language, Abila means "a place where the devil does not want to go." Every patrol of the border guards must endure the wind, tread snow and water, and wade through the rapids on the cliffs.

On July 16, 2005, Gu Nu, the deputy squad leader of the second company and the third squad of a certain regiment of border defense of the Shannan Military Sub-district in Tibet, and his comrades-in-arms were patrolling the border of Abila when they suddenly encountered a landslide. As a security officer, Gu Nu was at the end of the line at the time, and when he found the danger, he immediately rushed forward and pushed a comrade on the bridge away, but he was hit by a boulder and fell under the bridge and died heroically.
On that day, Gu Fu, who was 19 months old and 16 days old in the party, left his beloved family and comrades-in-arms forever, as well as the military career he loved.

Upon learning of Gu Fu's death, Zhang Xinghui and his family were devastated. Since his wife Gu Yuehai's health was not suitable for entering Tibet, Zhang Xinghui embarked on a journey to Gu Nu's unit with his daughter Gu Ping and several relatives. We flew to Lhasa Gonggar Airport and transferred all the way to a place where the company was still more than ten kilometers away. Affected by the landslide, the rest of the journey can only be walked.
"It's not easy all the way, and I know how hard my son is!" Recalling the experience of going to the company for the first time, Zhang Xinghui couldn't help but shed tears. She vividly remembered that there was an ice river on the way, and the boys of the company carried her down the river, and none of them cried out in pain.
"When I got to the company barracks, I went out and saw the soldiers washing their feet, and when they took off their socks, I found that some of their feet were blistered in snow and some were full of blood bubbles." Gu Ping recalled that she told her mother about this, and her mother immediately delivered 20 pairs of insoles that she had intended to use as a farewell gift when leaving the company to the soldiers, just so that the young soldiers could feel more comfortable on their feet when they patrolled.
During the two days of the company, Zhang Xinghui felt even more the hardships of the border guards. "The roads patrolled can't be counted as roads at all, they eat frozen vegetables, and the children stationed on the frontier are too hard!"
