Antu Castle

During japan's Warring States period, not only did many famous generals who were familiar to people. Many magnificent castles were also built. Although most of the castles are no longer there, I would like to tell you about the origins and interesting stories of these castles.

Today, let's talk about Azuchi Castle, built by Oda Nobunaga during the Sengoku period in Japan.

Azuchi Castle, the origin of the name is because

Although Nobunaga was called the "Sixth HeavenLy Demon King" by history, he still wanted to build a "peaceful paradise", and the name of the castle was derived from this.

After The success of Nobunaga Kami-Rakami in 1568, he began a honeymoon with General Ashikaga, and nobunaga was dissatisfied with gifu castle where he lived, for three reasons, one was that Gifu Castle was too far from Kyoto, and the return was too tiring; second, because his love was Habu Hideyoshi and the wise Mitsuhide's jujo (Nagahama Castle and Sakamoto Castle) were out of the control of Kiyosu Castle, and it was not convenient for the two to contact them. In addition, it was also extremely convenient to send troops directly from Azuchi Castle to attack the Chinese Maori clan, the Kafui Takeda clan, and the Echigo Uesugi clan. Nobunaga's weapons factory is located in Kunigata Village, under Nagahama Castle, which is close to Azuchi Castle and is also easy to manage.

Therefore, in 1576, Nobunaga ordered the famous castle builder Niwa Nagahide to build Azuchi Castle on a small island on the south side of Lake Pipa, and he not only connected Nagahama Castle and Sakamoto Castle, but also greatly shortened the distance to Kyoto. It is said that Nobunaga used about 10,000 workers to build Azuchi Castle, and invited a number of architects from Kyoto and other places to participate in the construction. It took three years, and Azuchi Castle was officially completed in 1579.

Azuchi Castle is built on a hill with a height of 199 meters, and with its own seven-story building, the height of the castle has reached 65 meters, and if you stand on the castle tower, it is equivalent to 250 meters (about 80 floors). Standing in this place and looking at the scenery of Japan's Sengoku period, I have to say that Nobunaga still has enough to enjoy.

Restoration of Azuchi Castle

As for the introduction of these seven layers, the book describes it like this:

The first floor is a stone wall that serves as a warehouse for grain grain.

A second floor was built on top of the stone wall, with gold walls and 204 pillars, depicting hundreds of birds and Confucians.

On the third floor, there are 146 pillars, depicting flowers, birds and sages.

On the fourth floor, there are ninety-three pillars, painted pines, bamboo, etc.

The fifth layer, unpainted, is a triangle.

The sixth layer, octagonal shape, was designed by Nobunaga himself, the outer pillar was painted red, the inner column was covered with gold leaf, surrounded by carved rails, carved turtles and flying dragons; the outer wall was painted with evil spirits, and the inner painting of Shakyamuni and the ten disciples was painted.

On the seventh floor, both indoors and outdoors are coated with gold leaf, and the four pillars are carved with dragons.

Just describing it is already gorgeous, and it can be seen that the castle is more gorgeous than ordinary.

As for who set the fire, there are three folk sayings,

One theory was made by Mitsuhide's son-in-law, Shumitsu Mitsuhide, but many believe that Hidemitsu, a samurai with a great love of culture, committed suicide by setting fire to the castle even before he died, after he had carried valuable relics and jewelry to the castle. Such a culture-loving person could not burn down the Azuchi Castle, which contained countless treasures. Another corroborating evidence is that the fire occurred in Antu Castle on the second day after Xiuman left Antu Castle, which also greatly narrowed Hidemi's suspicion of arson.

The second theory is that nobunaga's foolish son, Shin Nobuo, was the main basis for the account of Freus's History of Japan, which reads: "Nobunaga's son Mimotoso (i.e., Nobuo) was a man of poor wit, and for this reason he ordered the castle to be set on fire during the war, and the castle was burned from the top, which was soon engulfed in flames, after which he set fire to the bazaar, and most of the bazaar was burned down." ”

But if you think about it carefully, there is no reason for the stupid son to do this, after Nobunaga's death, he was naturally the successor of the Nobunaga family, and it was impossible to personally order the burning of his own base camp, which belongs to the third theory, according to the "Records of Kanemi Qing": "The so-called Azuchi set fire to the clouds and clouds, are all imaginary, in fact, they are wildfires from the bottom of the mountain, and accidentally burned the castle." "However, Azuchi Castle is bordered by Lake Biwa on the east, north and west sides, and a trench has been dug in the direction of the south to land, which is simply a water fortress built in the lake, and the outside is on fire, which can burn the entire castle and the castle town to ashes."

Therefore, the burning of Antu Castle is likely to have originated from a wildfire, but the specific situation is known only to the people of that era.
