Even today's superhero movies, it is rare that the protagonist is so closely bound to chai rice oil and salt. Because our superheroes always seem to have to fight the evil forces, as The Incredibles says, "No matter how many times you save the planet, it will always be in crisis again."
When most superhero movies involve relationships with other family members, they either fight for power or destroy the world. Like "The Incredibles 2", it can be said that there are basically no superheroes changing diapers at home, tutoring homework, and worrying about children's emotional problems.
In addition to the chain reaction brought about by identity swapping, "The Incredibles 2" also explores topics such as women's rights. However, The Incredibles 2 is not a perfect movie.
Throughout the movie, I personally think that the most eye-catching place lies in the setting of the villain "Screen Master". The behavior of screen hegemony is a reflection on the shortcomings of the development of science and technology in the information age, and it is also a refutation of hedonism and consumerism. The values of Screenmaster not only appear in "The Incredibles 2", but also in works such as "Simone" and "Black Mirror", each appearance will trigger people's reflection, and the acceptance can be said to be thanos level.
However, screen master is also a relatively poorly handled part of this film. Because the audience positioning of the film is quite young, the film is often caught in the trade-off between "adult" and "child". Until the end, the problems thrown by Pingba could not be solved, but were forcibly eliminated on charges such as "you hurt my family and friends" and "you endangered public safety". The screen master has fallen, the crisis has been lifted, but is the world really better?
I think Brad Bird is a bit stuck at this point. Compared with "The Incredibles 2", the previous work "The Incredibles" solved the family problem of "going it alone or uniting", but what about this one? Nothing. The questions he lists in the film, including the pursuit of "entertainment to death", whether superhuman abilities should be bound by the law, women's family roles, etc., grasp any point to answer, will get a more convincing ending than the current version.
People will watch a qualified popcorn movie, but won't remember it. Today, Pixar is steadily developing in the direction of Disney and DreamWorks, and is reluctant to come out of the routine production comfort zone.
Animated movies don't have to make the audience laugh. The Iron Giant, which was homaged in Ready Player One, was also written by Brad Bird, but it creates a tragic and heavy atmosphere, and it is a movie that can move the audience to cry.
Originally, "The Incredibles 2" could also do such a heavy, just like "Ready Player One", allowing people to get out of the virtual and embrace reality. But it didn't, although the 118-minute film has already set a Pixar record.
Considering Brad Bird's talent and Pixar's pursuit of value, I still feel sorry for "The Incredibles 2", after all, it could have become an excellent work that will be remembered by future generations.
After 14 years, Pixar's animation production level has improved a lot, the story is basically round, and "The Incredibles 2" is a good commercial movie. In fact, its market and word-of-mouth performance is quite good, and there may be another small gold man waving to Brad Bird.
