Today, Zhang Dingyu is the deputy director of the Hubei Provincial Health Commission and is still busy protecting the health of the people.

Zhang Dingyu was born in December 1963 in Hanzheng Street, Wuhan City, and was admitted to the Medical Department of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1981. After graduation, Zhang Dingyu entered the Fourth Hospital of Wuhan and became an anesthesiologist.

Since then, he has left everyone with the impression that he is talking and doing things in a fiery and serious manner.

Later, Zhang Dingyu had more gray hair, but the mantra remained unchanged. "I can't wait for this thing, I'll do it right away!" During the epidemic prevention and control period, Zhang Dingyu's voice can always be heard in various wards of Jinyintan Hospital. He instructed the medical staff to do a good job of protection, and led everyone to collect samples and send them for testing in time.

In terms of patient admission, Zhang Dingyu asked the hospital to overcome all difficulties to admit patients. "As a communist party member, in times of crisis, we must not forget our original intentions and bravely undertake our mission!" Zhang Dingyu said.

The hospital went all out to empty the floors, thoroughly disinfect them, and urgently purchase ventilators, monitors and other equipment. From the transformation of wards and the deployment of medical staff to the arrangement of patients' food and medication treatment, Zhang Dingyu is concerned about everything.

Moving towards danger and charging forward is Zhang Dingyu's consistent style. He went out with a Chinese medical team to aid Algeria; in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan, he led the medical team to Shifang City, the hardest hit area; in Chinese New Year's Eve 2011, as a "Doctor Without Borders", his figure appeared in Pakistan...

"I have to run faster to beat time"

Huang Chaolin, then vice president of Jinyintan Hospital, said that Zhang Dingyu's spirit of selfless dedication and sacrifice of life and forget death has always inspired everyone.

In fact, many colleagues did not know at first that Zhang Dingyu's lameness was not what he called "bad knee joint", but suffered from frostbite. As early as 2018, he was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease.

In the face of the epidemic, Zhang Dingyu's first reaction is not to drop the chain, out of courtesy, he should also explain the reasons for his slow movement to the medical team and experts who came to support him. At a meeting of all ward directors, he took the initiative to confess to everyone that he was a frostbite patient, "I must run faster to win time and rescue more patients!"

When Zhang Dingyu was fighting in the frontline of the fight against the epidemic, his wife Cheng Lin was also unfortunately infected with new crown pneumonia. Speaking of his wife, he felt that he had not taken good care of her. After his wife was admitted to the hospital, Zhang Dingyu only visited once. "Seeing that he was very tired, I urged him to hurry back to rest." Cheng Lin recalled. After Cheng Lin recovered and was discharged from the hospital, she donated 400 ml of plasma to do her part in fighting the epidemic.

Zhang Dingyu always puts patients first, sometimes it is too late to go home, just rest in the office for a while, often only three or four hours of sleep. Even if he fell ill due to busyness, he still did not forget to understand the patient's situation and the progress of treatment during the infusion. Zhang Dingyu always said: "The length of life is limited, but the width and thickness are infinite." ”

"It was everyone who made the sacrifices and contributions together, and I am only one of them"

In 2013, Zhang Dingyu took the lead in introducing advanced equipment such as high-flow oxygen inhalation device and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), established a multidrug-resistant ward, and set up a postdoctoral mobile station.

During the epidemic prevention and control period, Zhang Dingyu led all the staff of the hospital to treat more than 2,800 new crown pneumonia patients. In order to improve the cure rate and reduce mortality, he proposed to give nasal catheter oxygen therapy, high-flow humidification oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation therapy and other therapies according to the patient's condition, and the effect was obvious.

"I never thought I would receive the national honorary title of 'People's Hero', it was everyone who made sacrifices and contributions together, and I was just one of them." Zhang Dingyu said.

In the early stage of epidemic prevention and control, Zhang Dingyu saw the courier brother delivering meals in the hospital outpatient clinic. He was surprised, but then the courier brother's explanation melted his heart. "He said that this was sent by enthusiastic citizens to the medical staff of Jinyintan Hospital, and he wanted to express the concern and support of the citizens for the medical staff." Zhang Dingyu said.
