Zhao Yuanren (1892-1982), scholar, linguist and musician, together with Liang Qichao, Wang Guowei and Chen Yinke, was listed as the "four great mentors" of Tsinghua University, and successively filled in the pits of physics, mathematics, English, Chinese history, philosophy, psychology and physics, until the british philosopher Russell translated this "pit" on the spot, becoming the well-known father of modern Chinese linguistics.
