John McTavish, from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, is the protagonist of the game, nicknamed "Soap", born in Scotland on 19 January 1974 and died on 11 October 2016 in Prague, Czech Republic, at the age of 42.

He served in the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment of a brigade in Northern Ireland, and later joined the British 22nd Special Air Service Regiment with the rank of sergeant, serving as a sniper and demolition expert in the team, directly under the superior of the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, the field commander John Price, Soap also officially followed Price on the road to fight against extremist organizations, in the final level of "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", the fleeing Soap and others were hit by Zakaev's helicopter gunship, and everyone fell to the ground, Price, who was badly injured in the moment of crisis, threw his pistol M1911 to Soap, which killed Zakaev with it, and the gun followed Soap ever since.
After Zakaev's death, the extremist organization did not disappear, but grew rapidly under the leadership of the new leader Makarov, so Soap and Price joined Sheffield's Task Force 141 to deal with Makarov, Price served as field commander, Soap was promoted to the rank of captain, but during Operation Totoaba, Price was captured, and soap then took up the heavy burden as the field commander of Task Force 141, with simon Riley as the deputy, code-named Ghost.
Interestingly, after Price was captured (Soap thought he was dead), Soap smoked the exact same cigar as Price in his memory, and even smoked exactly the same action.
Soap had been leading Task Force 141 for a full 5 years until they got the intelligence that a man Makarov hated and feared very much was imprisoned in Gulag Prison, code-named Prisoner 627, so they decided to rescue this man, and then used him as bait to lure Out Makarov.
What Soap did not expect was that this Prisoner No. 627 was actually Price, which was an absolute surprise for Soap, and he was really happy about Price's return, and he returned his command and the pistol that had killed Zakaev to Price at the first time.
After that, Soap followed Price in his fight against Makarov, but tragedy soon struck, with Task Force 141 being betrayed by its supreme commander, General Sheffield, and all but Price, Soap, and Nikolai were killed.
So Soap and Price, with the determination to die, broke into Sheffield's secret base, and with the strength of the two, successfully killed Sheffield, but Soap was stabbed by Sheffield with a dagger in the process, seriously injured, and later with the help of Nikolai, Soap was transferred to India to heal, during which Time Task Force 141 was removed, soap and Price were wanted worldwide for assassinating General Sheffield.
After recovering from his wounds, Soap continued to fight with Price and the new Yuri, they got the news that Makarov would appear in a hotel in Prague, Czech Republic, so they planned an assassination plan, but they did not know that all this was actually Makarov's trap, Makarov had already planted a bomb at their sniper point, Soap found the bomb and pushed Yuri downstairs, he was also pushed down by the air wave after the bomb explosion, but because Soap was face down and fell to the ground, the abdominal wound may crack, After retreating without medical treatment until he died of excessive blood loss, After Soap's death, Price painfully placed the pistol that had killed Zakaev on Soap's chest...
Soap died like this, he left this world with the regret of not being able to kill Makarov, and even to his death he was only a wanted criminal, not sacrificed as a hero, he was like an unsung hero in reality, silently burning his life, few people can know their deeds!
"Soap" John McTavish, the eternal hero in our hearts!
