Chongqing, August 24 (China News Network) -- More than a month ago, a pair of premature "young brothers" weighing 490 grams and 830 grams came to this world. Among them, the "little sister" who weighs only 490 grams is the "lowest weight" recorded in Chongqing. On the 24th, the reporter learned from the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital that through the careful care of the medical staff, the twin "miss brothers" have spent a critical 40 days in the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Currently, the two children have stable vital signs.
On July 15, due to the mother's "premature rupture of membranes", a pair of "young ladies and brothers" who were less than 26 weeks old came to this world early. Among them, "Little Sister" 490 grams, "Little Brother" 830 grams.
"When she was born, the body of the 'little sister' was only the size of an adult's palm, and the length of the body was only 27 centimeters, which was a veritable 'pocket baby'." Zhong Xiaoyun, director of the Department of Neonatology of Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital, told China News Network that because the function of the child's organs throughout the body is extremely immature, after birth, it faces many difficulties such as infection, breathing, circulation, nutrition, and nervous system damage.

Zhong Xiaoyun said that the child's feeding and nutrition are the key to the whole treatment. "Eating is very important for premature babies. Because the child's sucking ability is not good, it can only be squeezed out to feed. Zhong Xiaoyun told reporters that on the first day, nurses could only use syringes to slowly push breast milk into the child's oral tube feeding, "On the first day of birth, we fed 4 times, because the child was too small, each time can only feed 0.5 ml of breast milk." And the process is very slow, it takes about 5 minutes to slowly push this little milk in. ”
Through 40 days of hard work, "Little Sister" finally succeeded in establishing enteral feeding, and currently can eat 15 ml of breast milk at a time, without complications such as digestive tract infections.
Another difficulty faced by "Little Sister" is the need to draw blood multiple times for tests. The neonatologists are doing their best to maintain the child's blood volume while treating the child.
"The child's blood volume is only 40 milliliters in total, and 10% of the blood is 4 milliliters. In other words, the child may develop hemorrhagic shock at a time when he loses 4 to 8 milliliters of blood. Zhong Xiaoyun said that when drawing blood for tests, doctors in the neonatology department often "bargain" with the doctors in the laboratory department: "Can only 1.5 milliliters of blood be drawn for 2 milliliters?" "Can some projects be done less?"
"We are all good for 0.5 milliliters of blood because this child's blood is so precious." Zhong Xiaoyun said.
It is understood that at present, the vital signs of premature birth "miss brother" are stable, and the weight of the sisters and brothers has also increased to 820 grams and 1200 grams respectively. Zhong Xiaoyun revealed that at present, "Little Sister" has another difficulty: her skull color ultrasound indicates intracranial hemorrhage and complicated hydrocephalus.
"This child was born with intraventricular hemorrhage, which affected the disorder of cerebrospinal fluid. Now we have observed that this expansion has increased, and if it is held up by water in the ventricles, it will affect the child's brain development. Based on the surgical consultation, the result of our final discussion was to wait, monitoring the child's ventricular dilation, and waiting until the child can withstand the operation. Zhong Xiaoyun said.
