At Asia Week in New York, which will start from September 20 to 23, 2021, sotheby's, Christie's and Bonhams have all released their heavy weapons and launched india, himalayan and Southeast Asian art sessions. A total of 179 lots were launched by the three major auction houses of this topic, including statues, magic tools, thangkas, paintings, etc., of which portrait lots accounted for more than 50% of the total number of special auctions. Judging from the final transaction results, the highest transaction price of this special single item of the three major auction houses is also a statue.
There are three reasons why Buddhist and Hindu-themed statues have become the focus of auction houses and are favored by the market:
First, the historical value and artistic value of the statue itself are the foundation of its ability to win in the international market. The Western knowledge, research and collection of Himalayan art has a history of up to 150 years, such as the Rubin Museum of Art in New York, which is the first museum in the West dedicated to collecting, displaying and preserving art in and around the Himalayas, especially in Tibet.
Second, the craftsmanship and style of different periods and different regions are very different, which is an important point for attracting international collectors;
The third is the auction of excellent quality and prominent heritage, especially several of the important lots, which have been recorded by the authoritative Himalayan art resource library;
The following is a special session of Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian art at Asia Week in New York, inviting Buddhist and Tibetan friends to taste it.

Looking at The country again, in recent years, statues have achieved many good results in the auction markets in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Taking the Hong Kong Autumn Auction as an example, in 2006, the great collector Cai Mingchao invited a seated statue of Ming Yongle gilded Shakyamuni for HK$110 million, and in 2013, a Gilded Bronze Buddha of Ming Yongle was sold for HK$200 million. Industry experts have also said that from the perspective of the market in recent years, it can be called the golden decade of the collection of Buddha statues.
According to the information released by the auction house, most of the Buddha statues in the style of the Wei and Jin Dynasties from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties will cause a wave of statue fever in the middle and high ages? We'll see.
Also from October 15 to 16, Galerie Zacke, Austria's largest auction house, launched a special exhibition of Chinese, Buddhist and Hindu antiques, and its statue category is also quite eye-catching.
